Mustang 2041 Troubleshooting
The Mustang 2041 skid steer loader is powered by Yanmar 4TNV88-XMS2 vertical four-cylinder naturally aspirated water-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 46 hp (34 kW) at 2600 rpm. The Mustang 2041 is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, single-speed hydrostatic transmission, 80K drive chains, and 10x16.5 HD standard tires. The hydraulic system has a pump with fluid flow rate of 16.5 gpm (62 lpm). The hydraulic pressure is 2750 psi (190 bar). The skid steer loader has a rated operating capacity of 1350 lbs (612 kg) and tipping load of 2700 lbs (1225 kg). The lift height is 110 inches (2795 mm) to hinge pin, and dump height is 86.5 inches (2195 mm).

Engine difficult to start or doesn't start
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Dirty fuel filter - Install new filter element.
Dirty or faulty injection nozzles - Replace injection nozzles.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
Excessive valve clearance - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Damaged fuel injection pump - Repair or install new pump.
Diesel starts but stalls suddenly
Air cleaner is clogged - Service or replace air cleaner.
Fuel filter element clogging - Clean or replace the filter.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Defective or clogged fuel injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Fuel injection pump is faulty - Repair or install a new fuel pump.
Engine stops unexpectedly during operation
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up the engine.
Fuel filter plugging - Replace the filter element.
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Set it up as required.
Engine stalls while idling
Too low idle RPM - Normalize low idle speed.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Install a new pump or rebuild.
Defective fuel injectors - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Valve clearance is not correct - Have it adjusted.
Engine power loss
Dirty air cleaner - Clean or change cleaner.
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged - Service or change injection nozzles.
Uneven fuel injection pressure - Check the fuel injection pressure and adjust if necessary.
Excessive valve clearance - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Correct low idle settings.
Clogged fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel system hoses and lines.
Worn cylinder head gasket - Install a new gasket.
Piston rings are worn or defective - Install new piston rings.
Engine overheats
Low coolant level - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Engine oil level is low - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator fins - Install new cap or clean radiator.
Damaged or worn fan belt - Change the fan belt.
Diesel engine is overloaded - Load reducing required.
Oil pressure is low
Low crankcase oil level - Fill crankcase to proper oil level.
Plugged engine oil filter - Replace or service engine oil filter.
Different type of engine oil - Use the specified type of engine oil.
Crankshaft bearing has incorrect oil clearance - Change bearings.
Oil pump is defective - Check and replace if necessary.
Abnormal engine noise or knocking
Engine oil level is insufficient - Check and refill engine oil.
Engine is not fully warmed up - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Check the fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Incorrect low idle setting - Test and adjust.
Fuel injector fault - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Faulty or misaligned connecting rod - Need to align or replace the connecting rod.
Worn or broken pistons - Have pistons replaced.

Machine will not move in either direction or one direction
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Check and refill the hydraulic fluid.
Drive chain malfunction - Inspect drive chain and replace faulty components.
Relief valver is broken - Rebuild or install a new relief valve.
Suction line or hydraulic filter is clogged - Service suction line or replace hydraulic filter.
Foot or hand controls are damaged - Replace or repair.
Drive motor or pump is defective - Replace or repair faulty component.
Loss of power
Dirty hydraulic oil filter - Change or service hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is opened or defective - Change or close relief valve.
Transmission components are worn or defective - Inspect and change faulty parts.
Damaged input drive shaft - Faulty drive shaft need to be replaced or repair.
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Bleed air from hydraulic system.
Drive system overheating
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.
Hydraulic fluid filter is dirty - Change or service hydraulic filter.
Defective or worn relief valve - Service or change relief valve.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump failure - Change or repair faulty component.
Plugged hydraulic oil cooler - Clean cooling fins as required.
Overloaded drive system - Load needs to be reduced.
Drive system is excessively noisy
Incorrect oil viscosity - Drain and refill with proper oil.
Air in the hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump failure - Change or repair faulty component.
Mechanical components of drive system are worn or damaged - Check the components for defect or damage and change if necessary.

Damaged or incorrect adjusted hydraulic control valve - Repair or adjust correctly.
Hydraulic pressure has dropped - Adjust pressure as required.
Lift arm or bucket is working jerkily
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter element - Service or change the hydraulic filter.
Dirty hydraulic oil - Hydraulic oil change required.
Cylinder tube or rod scoring - Replace defective component.
Hydraulic pump is noisy
Hydraulic leaks or low oil level - Top up hydraulic oil or remedy leakage in system.

Clogged suction line - Service the suction line.
Pump is sucking air - Remove air from hydraulics.
Worn pump parts - Replace or rebuild the pump.

Battery is not charging
Wiring connections are corroded or loose - Service or tighten cable connections.
Battery terminal clamps are faulty - Terminal clamps should be changed.
Dead cell in battery - Replace the battery.
Belt is loose or defective - Adjust belt tension or replace belt.
Starter cranks slow
Low battery power - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Battery does not hold charge - Service battery or change it.
Disconnected wiring or bad battery terminals - Connect wires properly or change terminals.
Starter does not work
Battery is low or faulty - Recharge or change battery.
Battery cables are disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect cables and connect properly.
Low battery voltage - Battery is drained, recharge it.
Faulty starter motor - Replace or repair starter.
