John Deere 4475 Troubleshooting

The John Deere 4475 skid steer loader is powered by 91.3 cu.in (1.5L) Yanmar 3TNE84D 3-cylinder liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 31 hp (23 kW) at 3000 rpm. The John Deere 4475 is equipped with a vertical-lift loader boom, one-speed hydrostatic transmission, heavy-duty drive chains, and 10.00x16.5 standard tires. Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or doesn't start
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Fuel filter plugged - Replace filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance according to specifications.

Engine stalls after running
Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature - Warm up the engine.

Clogged or defective injection nozzles - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust fuel injection pump as required.

Engine stalling at idle
Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injection pump is faulty - Replacement or repair required.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Improper valve clearance - Check and adjust as required.

Engine power loss
Clogged air cleaner - Service or replace air cleaner.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Replace injection nozzles.
Insufficient fuel injection pressure - Correct the pressure settings.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjustment procedure required.
Incorrect low idle setting - Normalize low idle speed.
Restricted fuel lines or hoses - Clean fuel system hoses and lines.
Cylinder-head gasket is broken - Replace cylinder head gasket.

Engine overheated
Engine coolant is insufficient - Fill radiator to proper level and check components for faults.

Fan belt is worn or faulty - Belt change is required.
Diesel engine is overloaded - Load reducing is recommended.

Low oil pressure
Oil level is insufficient - Fill crankcase to proper oil level.
Oil filter element is dirty - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Wrong oil viscosity - Drain and refill with oil of correct grade and viscosity.
Incorrect crankshaft bearing oil clearance - Change bearings.
Oil pump failure - Check and replace if necessary.

Engine noise or knocking
Lack of engine oil - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Engine is not preheated - Warm up to required temperature.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Adjust as recommended.
Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Normalize low idle speed.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Machine will not move in either direction or one direction
Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.
Drive chain malfunction - Check drive chain and change defective parts.
Relief valve is stuck - Change or repair defective relief valve.
Hydraulic filter or suction line is plugged - Change hydraulic filter or service suction line.
Defective hand or foot controls - Repair or replace.
Drive motor or pump is worn - Check and repair if required.

Low power
Dirty hydraulic oil filter - Replace hydraulic filter.
Open or faulty relief valve - Replace or close relief valve.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system overheats
Hydraulic pressure is not correct - Set pressure correctly.
Unadjusted or defective main relief valve - Set up or change the relief valve.
Dirty hydraulic oil - Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil.
Not enough hydraulic fluid in the system - Need to add fluid.
Hydraulic pump is worn - Change or repair hydraulic pump if required.

Lift arm does not lower or raise
Damaged lift controls - Change or repair.

Slow bucket or lift arm operation

Oil leaks from hydraulic cylinder - Correct leakage by changing the seals.
Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.
Hydraulic control valve is not set properly or defective - Adjust properly or repair.

Lift arm or bucket is moving jerkily
Air in the hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Hydraulic oil filter clogging - Clean or install new filter.
Hydraulic fluid is dirty - Hydraulic fluid change required.
Cylinder rod or tube is scuffed - Replace worn component.

Excessive hydraulic pump noise
Leaking hydraulic system or insufficient oil level - Remedy hydraulic leakage or refill oil as necessary.
Hydraulic filter is dirty - Service or replace hydraulic filter.
Suction line is clogged - Need to service the suction line.
Pump is sucking air - Bleed air from hydraulics.
Worn pump components - Replace or rebuild the pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery won’t charge
Corroded or loose wire connections - Tighten or service connections.
Battery terminal connectors are faulty - Terminal connectors should be replaced.
Worn-out battery - Use a new battery.
Defective or loose belt - Belt needs to be adjusted or replaced.

Starter cranks slowly
Low battery output voltage - Charge the battery.
Battery is not holding charge - Service charging system or install new battery.
Faulty battery terminals or disconnected cables - Check cables and clean or change terminals.

Starter does not work
Battery is discharged or worn - Change or recharge battery.
Wiring is improperly connected or disconnected - Check wiring and connect properly.
Low battery output - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Starter motor is faulty - Starter should be changed.
