Gehl 4625 Troubleshooting
The Gehl 4625 skid steer loader driveline system components: a 134.1 cu.in (2.2L) Kubota V2203 vertical four-cylinder water-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 45.4 hp (33.8 kW), and single-speed hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 18 gal/min (68.2 l/min). The system relief pressure is 3000 psi (207 bar). The Gehl 4625 is equipped with radial-lift loader boom, 80H roller chains, and 10.5x15 or 29-12.5x15 tires. The skid steer loader has a maximum lift height of 114.8" (2915 mm) to hinge pin and dump height of 90.9" (2310 mm). The rated operating capacity is 1350 lbs (615 kg), and tipping load is 2700 lbs (1230 kg).

Engine starts hard or will not start
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Clogged fuel filter - Replace filter element.
Burnt or defective injection nozzle - Service or change injection nozzles.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Valve out of adjustment - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Damaged fuel injection pump - Repair or install new pump.
Engine starts but stops suddenly
Clogged air cleaner - Clean or change cleaner.
Dirty fuel filter - Clean the filter or install new filter element.
Fuel injection pump has loose connections - Tighten the connections.
Defective or clogged fuel injectors - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump is not operating properly - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.
Engine shuts off while running
Engine is not fully warmed up - Warm up the engine to required temperature.
Fuel filter plugging - Install new filter element.
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Clogged injection nozzle - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.
Engine stalls at idle
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjust as required.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Repair or change injection pump.
Defective fuel injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Check and adjust as required.
Loss of engine power
Air filter is dirty - Clean or change filter.
Clogged injection nozzle - Test injection nozzles and change if necessary.
Fuel injection pressure is wrong - Adjust to correct pressure.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Too low idle RPM - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel lines or hoses clogging - Clean fuel lines and hoses.
Blown cylinder head gasket - Replace cylinder head gasket.
Damaged or leaking piston rings - Change piston rings.
Engine overheating
Low engine coolant - Fill radiator to proper level and check components for faults.
Insufficient engine oil - Fill the crankcase with engine oil.
Clogged radiator core or leaking radiator cap - Install new cap or clean radiator.
Fan belt is broken or worn - The fan belt needs to be replaced.
Engine overload - Load reducing required.
Oil pressure is low
Engine oil insufficient - Need to add oil.
Oil filter element is dirty - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Incorrect engine oil Use oil of proper viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing has excessive oil clearance - Change bearings.
Oil pump is defective - Install a new pump.
Abnormal engine noise or knocking
Engine oil insufficient - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Low coolant temperature - Warm up the engine.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Adjust fuel injection pump as required.
Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Adjust low idle speed.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Connecting rod is defective or misaligned - Need to replace or align the connecting rod.
Worn or broken pistons - Pistons replacement required.

Machine does not move forward or backward
Low hydraulic oil level - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Drive chain fault - Inspect drive chain and replace defective parts.
Input drive shaft malfunctioning - Replace drive shaft.
Relief valve is not working correctly - Repair or replace.
Hydraulic filter or suction line is plugged - Service suction line or replace hydraulic filter.
Worn or damaged foot or hand controls - Inspect and repair if necessary.
Damaged drive pump or motor - Replace or repair faulty component.
Lack of power
Hydraulic oil filter is plugged - Change or clean hydraulic filter.
Open or faulty relief valve - Replace or close relief valve.
Worn or faulty transmission components - Check and change faulty components.
Defective input drive shaft - Repair or install a new drive shaft.
Air in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.
Drive system overheating
Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Need to add oil.
Clogged hydraulic fluid filter - Check, clean, or replace as required.
Relief valve defective or worn - Relief valve need to be replaced or repair.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is worn - Check and repair if required.
Hydraulic oil cooler is plugged - Clean the cooling fins.
Transmission overloading - Reduce loading.
Drive system is excessively noisy
Improper oil viscosity - Use correct oil viscosity.
Air in the hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is defective - Repair or change faulty component.
Defective or worn mechanical components of drive system - Check the components for defect or damage and change if necessary.

Faulty or incorrect setting hydraulic control valve - Adjust properly or repair.

Bucket or boom is jerky
Air leaks in hydraulic system - Need to bleed air.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter element - Service or change the hydraulic filter.
Hydraulic fluid is dirty - Fill up with fresh hydraulic fluid.
Cylinder tube or rod is scored - Change worn component.
Hydraulic pump makes excessive noise
Lack of oil or hydraulic leakage - Refill hydraulic oil or repair leaks in system.
Hydraulic filter is dirty - Clean or install new filter.
Clogged suction line - Suction line needs to be cleaned.
Air trapped in hydraulic pump - Need to bleed air.
Faulty pump parts - Install new hydraulic pump or rebuild it.
Electrical Troubleshooting |
Battery won’t charge
Loose or corroded electrical wiring connections - Tighten or service connections.
Faulty battery terminal clamps - Install new terminal clamps.
Battery is worn - Replace the battery.
Damaged or loose belt - Replace belt or adjust belt tension.
Starter motor turns slow
Low battery output - Recharge the battery.
Battery does not hold charge - Service charging system or replace battery.
Terminals are faulty or battery cables are disconnected - Check wire connections and change or service terminals.
Starter is not cranking
Battery is low or faulty - Charge or replace the battery.
Battery cables are disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect cables and connect properly.
Low battery capacity - Battery is drained, charge it.
Faulty starter motor - Starter needs to be changed.
