Case SR270B Troubleshooting

The Case SR270B skid steer loader is powered by FPT F5B FL413 four-cylinder direct injection turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 84 hp (63 kW) at 2500 rpm. The Case SR270B is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, single-speed or two-speed hydrostatic transmission, ASA 100 drive chains, and 12.00x16.5 standard tires. The hydraulic system has a pump with fluid flow rate of 24.2 gpm (91.5 lpm) or 37.6 gpm (142.5 lpm). The skid steer loader has a rated operating capacity of 2700 lbs (1225 kg) and tipping load of 5400 lbs (2450 kg). The lift height is 125.1 inches (3180 mm) to hinge pin, and dump height is 100.9 inches (2560 mm).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or won't start
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Clogged fuel filter - Change filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - Replace injection nozzles.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
Valve out of adjustment - Check and adjust as required.
Defective fuel injection pump - Rebuild or change fuel pump.

Engine starts and stops suddenly
Clogged air filter - Clean or replace element.
Clogged fuel filter - Replace the filter element.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Install a new pump or rebuild.

Diesel shuts off while driving
Engine is not fully warmed up - Warm up the engine.
Fuel filter is plugged - Service or replace the filter.
Air in fuel system - Bleed fuel system.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust as recommended.

Engine stalls while idling
Too low idle RPM - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Replacement or repair required.
Defective fuel injectors - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Excessive valve clearance - Correct valve clearance.

Engine lacks power
Plugged air cleaner - Service or replace air cleaner.
Clogged injection nozzle - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Incorrect fuel injection pressure - Adjust pressure to proper level.
Valve out of adjustment - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.
Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjust low idle speed.
Fuel lines or hoses are clogged - Clean fuel system hoses and lines.
Blown cylinder head gasket - Replace the gasket as required.
Piston rings are worn or damaged - Replace the piston rings as required.

Engine overheating
Engine has a lack of coolant - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Engine oil insufficient - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Dirty radiator core or defective radiator cap - Clean radiator or install new cap.
Fan belt is broken or worn - Install new fan belt.
Engine overload - Load reducing required.

Low oil pressure
Low crankcase oil level - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Oil filter clogged - Replace or clean engine oil filter element.
Incorrect engine oil Use proper viscosity oil.
Excessive oil clearance of crankshaft bearing - Replace bearings.
Oil pump is defective - Check and replace if necessary.

Abnormal engine noise or knocking
Engine oil level is insufficient - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Set up as recommended.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjustment required.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Connecting rod failure or misalignment - Connecting rod must be aligned or replaced.
Piston wear or scoring - Install new pistons.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Machine is not moving in one direction or either direction
Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Check and refill the hydraulic fluid.
Faulty drive chain - Check drive chain and change faulty components.
Defective relief valve - Change or repair relief valve.
Dirty hydraulic filter or suction line - Clean suction line or change hydraulic filter.
Foot or hand controls are faulty - Repair or change.
Drive motor or pump is worn - Replace or repair faulty component.

Low power
Dirty hydraulic oil filter - Change hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is open or defective - Close or replace relief valve.
Transmission components are worn or defective - Check and change faulty components.
Worn input drive shaft - Replace drive shaft.
Air in the hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.

Drive system overheats
Hydraulic fluid level low - Add fluid as required.
Hydraulic fluid filter is dirty - Check, clean, or change as necessary.
Worn or defective relief valve - Relief valve need to be replaced or repair.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is worn - Inspect and change as required.
Oil cooler is clogged - Clean the cooling fins.
Drive system is overloaded - Reduce drive system load.

Excessive noise
Improper oil viscosity - Drain and refill with proper oil.
Air in the hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.
Worn hydraulic motor or drive pump - Repair or replace faulty component.
Mechanical components of drive system are damaged or worn - Check the parts for defect or damage and change if required.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system has overheating
Incorrect hydraulic pressure setting - Adjust pressure correctly.
Defective or misadjusted main relief valve - Replace or set up the relief valve.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
Not enough hydraulic fluid in the system - Add fluid to the hydraulic system.
Worn hydraulic oil pump - Install new pump or repair it.

Boom fails to lift or drop
Lift controls malfunction - Inspect and repair if necessary.
Hydraulic pump failure - Change or repair hydraulic pump if required.

Hydraulic control valve is defective or set improper - Set correctly or repair.

Bucket or boom movements are jerky
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Service or change the hydraulic filter.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - The fluid must be changed.
Cylinder rod or tube is scuffed - Replace failed component.

Hydraulic pump makes excessive noise
Not enough oil or hydraulic system leaking - Refill hydraulic oil or repair leaks in system.
Clogged hydraulic filter - Clean or install new filter.
Suction line is dirty - Suction line must be serviced.
Air trapped in hydraulic pump - Bleed air.
Damaged pump parts - Rebuild or replace hydraulic pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery is not charging
Corroded or loose wire connections - Tighten or service cable connections.
Faulty battery terminal clamps - Replace terminal clamps.
Faulty cell in battery - Change the battery.
Damaged or loose belt - Change belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter cranks slow
Low battery power - Battery is drained, recharge it.
Battery drains quickly - Service or replace the battery.
Corroded battery terminals or disconnected wires - Connect cables properly or replace terminals.

Starter does not work
Battery is drained or worn - Need to charge or replace the battery.
Wiring is incorrectly connected or disconnected - Inspect wiring and connect correctly.
Battery power is low - Charge the battery.
Starter motor is defective - Starter needs to be replaced.
