Case SR130 Troubleshooting

The Case SR130 skid steer loader is powered by 135.1 cu.in (2.2L) ISM Shibaura N844L 4-cylinder vertical in-line water-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 46 hp (34.1 kW) at 2800 rpm. The Case SR130 is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, single-speed hydrostatic transmission, ASA 80 drive chains, and 10.00x16.5 standard tires. The hydraulic system has a pump with fluid flow rate of 15.6 gpm (59 lpm). The hydraulic pressure is 3000 psi (207 bar). The skid steer loader has a rated operating capacity of 1300 lbs (590 kg) and tipping load of 2600 lbs (1180 kg). The lift height is 112 inches (2845 mm) to hinge pin, and dump height is 88.4 inches (2245 mm).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine hard to start or will not start
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Change the filter element.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Service or change injection nozzles.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
The valve clearance is not adjusted - Adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Install a new pump or rebuild.

Engine stalls after starting
Dirty air filter - Change or service air filter element.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Replace the filter element.
Fuel injection pump has loose connections - Tighten the connections.
Clogged or defective injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Rebuild or replace pump.

Engine stops unexpectedly during operation
Coolant temperature is low -Warm up the engine as required.
Fuel filter element clogging - Change filter element.
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Fuel injection nozzles are clogged or faulty - Service or change injection nozzles.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Check the fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stops at idle
Too low idle RPM - Adjust the low idle speed.
Fuel injection pump failure - Replace or rebuild injection pump.
Clogged or defective injectors - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Valve out of adjustment - Check and adjust as required.

Engine power is insufficient
Plugged air filter - Change or service air filter element.
Faulty fuel injection nozzles - Test injection nozzles and change if necessary.
Incorrect fuel injection pressure - Correct the pressure settings.
Valve clearance is wrong - Adjustment procedure required.
Incorrect low idle setting - Test and adjust.
Fuel hoses or lines are clogged - Clean fuel hoses and lines.
Cylinder-head gasket is leaking - Change cylinder head gasket.
Worn or broken piston rings - Install new piston rings.

Engine overheated
Coolant level is low - Fill the cooling system and check components for leaks or other faults.
Engine oil level low - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator core - Replace cap or clean radiator.
Fan belt is broken or worn - The fan belt needs to be replaced.
Diesel engine overloaded - Load reducing required.

Oil pressure too low
Engine oil level low - Check and refill the oil.
Oil filter is dirty - Service or replace engine oil filter.
Incorrect oil viscosity - Drain crankcase and refill with correct oil.
Crankshaft bearing has excessive oil clearance - Bearing needs to be changed.
Oil pump malfunction - Install a new pump.

Engine noises or knocks
Insufficient engine oil - Need to add engine oil.
Engine is not fully warmed up - Warm up engine as required.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Low idle speed setting is not correct - Adjust low idle speed.
Fuel injector fault - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Connecting rod is not aligned or defective - Need to replace or align the connecting rod.
Pistons are worn or broken - Pistons need to be replaced.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Drive system will not operate in either direction
Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Drive chain is worn - Check drive chain and change defective parts.
Relief valve failure - Relief valve need to be replaced or repair.
Plugged hydraulic filter or suction line - Replace hydraulic filter or clean suction line.
Damaged or worn hand or foot controls - Repair or replace.
Drive pump or motor malfunction - Check and repair if required.

Loss of power
Dirty hydraulic oil filter - Change hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is damaged or open - Close or change relief valve.
Faulty or worn transmission components - Check and replace faulty components.
Worn input drive shaft - Replace drive shaft.
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Need to bleed air.

Drive system overheating
Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.
Plugged hydraulic fluid filter - Change or service hydraulic filter.
Relief valve failure - Repair or install a new relief valve.
Damaged drive pump or hydraulic motor - Inspect and replace as necessary.
Hydraulic oil cooler is dirty - Cooling fins should be cleaned.
Drive system overload - Load needs to be reduced.

Drive system is excessively noisy
Oil viscosity is incorrect - Drain and refill with proper oil.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Defective drive pump or hydraulic motor - Inspect and change as required.
Mechanical parts of drive system are defective or worn - Check the parts for defect or damage and change if required.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system overheats
Hydraulic pressure is not correct - Adjust pressure correctly.
Defective or misadjusted main relief valve - Adjust relief valve or change if required.
Dirty hydraulic fluid - Hydraulic fluid change required.
Hydraulic oil level is insufficient - Add oil to the hydraulic system.
Worn hydraulic oil pump - Repair or change pump if required.

Lift arm fails to drop or lift
Faulty lift controls - Change or repair.
Defective hydraulic pump - Repair or install new hydraulic pump.
Hydraulic control valve malfunction - Install a new hydraulic valve or repair it.
Broken hydraulic cylinder - Install a new boom cylinder or repair it.
Insufficient hydraulic oil - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.

Bucket can't tilt
Faulty bucket tilt controls - Repair or replace.
Hydraulic pump is broken - Repair or change pump if required.
Defective hydraulic control valve - Install a new valve or repair it.
Defective bucket cylinder - Repair or change cylinder.
Hydraulic oil level low - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.

Boom or bucket moves slowly
Hydraulic pump is defective - Check pump capacity and change if necessary.
Leaking hydraulic cylinder - Cylinder seals need to be replaced.
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.
Hydraulic control valve is unadjusted or worn - Set correctly or repair.
Hydraulic system loosing pressure - Correct adjustment is required.

Bucket or boom jerks when working
There is air in the hydraulic system - Need to bleed air.
Hydraulic oil filter clogging - Replace or clean the filter.
Hydraulic fluid is dirty - Fill up with fresh hydraulic fluid.
Cylinder tube or rod scoring - Change failed component.

Hydraulic pump is noisy
Leaking hydraulic system or insufficient oil level - Correct hydraulic leaks or top up oil as needed.
Plugged hydraulic filter - Service or change hydraulic filter.
Suction line clogging - Clean suction line as required.
Air in hydraulic pump - Remove air from hydraulics.
Damaged pump parts - Rebuild or install new pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery cannot be charged
Electrical cable connections are corroded or loose - Service or tighten connections.
Battery terminal clamps are faulty - Terminal clamps need to be replaced.
Battery faulty cell - Install a new battery.
Worn or loose belt - Change belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter cranks slow
Low battery output - Recharge the battery.
Battery runs out quickly - Service battery or change it.
Disconnected battery cables or bad terminals - Connect cables properly or replace terminals.

Starter does not work
Battery is low or faulty - Replace or charge as required.
Wiring is improperly connected or disconnected - Check wiring and connect properly.
Low battery voltage - Recharge the battery.
Starter motor failure - Repair or replace starter.
