Bobcat 741 Troubleshooting
The Bobcat 741 skid steer loader is powered by 101 cu.in (1.65L) Deutz F2L511 four-cycle two-cylinder air-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 29.7 hp (22.1 kW) at 2800 rpm. The Bobcat 741 is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, single-speed hydrostatic transmission, 80HS drive chains, and 7.00x15 standard tires. The hydraulic system has a pump with fluid flow rate of 11 gpm (41.6 lpm). The hydraulic pressure is 2400 psi (165 bar). The skid steer loader has a rated operating capacity of 1300 lbs (590 kg) and tipping load of 2600 lbs (1180 kg). The lift height is 109 inches (2770 mm) to hinge pin, and dump height is 86.3 inches (2190 mm).

Engine starts hard or will not start

Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Engine stops at idle
Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjust the low idle speed.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Install a new pump or rebuild.
Defective fuel injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Valve out of adjustment - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Loss of engine power
Air cleaner is clogged - Service or replace air cleaner.
Clogged or defective injection nozzles - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Improper fuel injection pressure - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly.
The valve clearance is not adjusted - Check and adjust as required.
Low idle speed set incorrectly - Adjust as required.
Fuel hoses or lines clogging - Clean fuel lines and hoses.
Leaking cylinder head gasket - Install a new gasket.
Piston rings are damaged or leaking - Install new piston rings.
Engine overheated
Low engine coolant - Add coolant fluid to cooling system and also check it for leaks.
Engine oil insufficient - Fill up the engine oil.
Clogged radiator fins or leaking radiator cap - Install new cap or clean radiator.
Excessive wear of the fan belt - Belt change is required.
Diesel engine is overloaded - Reduce load on the engine.
Oil pressure is insufficient
Low crankcase oil level - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Oil filter element is dirty - Clean or change engine oil filter.
Improper type of engine oil - Use proper viscosity oil.
Crankshaft bearing has excessive oil clearance - Bearing replacement required.
Oil pump failure - Repair or replace.
Abnormal engine noise or knocking
Lack of engine oil - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up to required temperature.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Low idle speed setting is not correct - Adjust low idle speed.
Clogged or defective injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Connecting rod is misaligned or worn - Need to replace or align the connecting rod.
Worn or broken pistons - Replace the pistons.

Battery does not charge
Corroded or loose electrical wire connections - Service or tighten connections.
Battery terminal clamps are faulty - Terminal clamps should be changed.
Faulty cell in battery - Replace the battery.
Belt is worn or loose - Need to adjust belt tension or replace belt.
Starter cranks slow
Battery power is low - Recharge the battery.
Battery runs out quickly - Service or replace the battery.
Bad terminals or disconnected battery cables - Connect wires properly or change terminals.
Starter is not working
Battery is low or faulty - Replace or charge as required.
Disconnected or improperly connected wiring harness - Inspect battery wiring harness and connect as required.
