Mustang 2022 Troubleshooting

TThe Mustang 2022 skid steer loader driveline system components: Yanmar 3TNV88 4-cycle 3-cylinder direct injection naturally aspirated liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 36 hp (27 kW), and single-speed hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 14.5 gal/min (54.5 l/min). The Mustang 2022 is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, 80K drive chains, and 27x8.5-18 (Std) or 27x10.5x15 (Opt) tires. The skid steer loader has a maximum lift height of 108" (2745 mm) to hinge pin and dump height of 84.5" (2145 mm). The rated operating capacity is 1050 lbs (476 kg), and tipping load is 2100 lbs (953 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts hard or won't start
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Fuel filter element clogging - Clean or change the filter.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Valve clearance is wrong - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Rebuild or change fuel pump.

Engine starts but stops suddenly
Clogged air filter - Install new air filter element.
Dirty fuel filter - Replace filter element.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Dirty or defective injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Defective fuel injection pump - Change pump or rebuild it.

Engine stops unexpectedly during operation
Engine is not fully warmed up - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Fuel filter is plugged - Clean or change the filter.
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Damaged or dirty injection nozzles - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Improper fuel injection timing - Set it up as required.

Engine stalling at idle
Low idle speed set incorrectly - Correct low idle settings.
Defective fuel injection pump - Replace or repair injection pump.
Fuel injector fault - Replace fuel injectors.
Valve clearance is not correct - Adjust to proper valve clearance.

Diesel engine is losing power
Air filter is dirty - Clean or replace element.
Dirty or faulty injection nozzles - Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles.
Improper fuel injection pressure - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly.
Incorrect valve clearance - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Correct low idle settings.
Dirty fuel lines or hoses - Clean fuel hoses and lines.
Cylinder head gasket is defective - Gasket should be replaced.
Piston rings are broken or leaking - Install new piston rings.

Engine overheated
Low engine coolant - Fill radiator to proper level and check components for faults.
Engine oil insufficient - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Clogged radiator core or leaking radiator cap - Change cap or clean radiator.
Loose or damaged fan belt - Change the fan belt.
Engine is overloaded - Load reducing required.

Oil pressure too low
Low crankcase oil level - Fill crankcase to proper oil level.
Dirty oil filter element - Change or service engine oil filter.
Different type of engine oil - Use oil of correct viscosity.
Main bearing oil clearance is excessive - Replace bearings.
Oil pump failure - Check and replace if necessary.

Engine knocking sound or abnormal noise
Not enough engine oil - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Engine not warmed up - Warm up the engine.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust the pump as required.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Correct the settings.
Defective fuel injectors - Test and replace fuel injectors if necessary.
Connecting rod is misaligned or defective - Connecting rod needs to be aligned or changed.
Pistons are broken or worn - Pistons replacement required.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Drive system doesn't work in either direction
Insufficient hydraulic oil - Fill the system to proper hydraulic oil level.
Drive chain is worn - Inspect drive chain and replace faulty parts.
Relief valve is stuck - Relief valve need to be replaced or repair.
Suction line or hydraulic filter is plugged - Service suction line or replace hydraulic filter.
Defective hand or foot controls - Repair or replace.
Worn drive motor or pump - Check and repair if required.

Low power
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Replace or clean hydraulic filter.
Open or faulty relief valve - Close or replace relief valve.
Faulty or damaged transmission components - Check and replace faulty components.
Defective input drive shaft - Repair or install a new drive shaft.
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Need to bleed air.

Overheated drive system
Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.
Hydraulic fluid filter is plugged - Check, clean, or change as necessary.
Worn or defective relief valve - Repair or change.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is worn - Repair or change faulty component.
Oil cooler is clogged - Clean cooling fins as required.
Transmission overloading - Reduce drive system load.

Drive system is noisy
Wrong oil viscosity - Drain and refill with proper oil.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Drive pump or hydraulic motor is damaged - Repair or change faulty component.
Mechanical components of drive system are defective or worn - Check drive system and change faulty components.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system has overheating
Hydraulic pressure is not adjusted correctly - Adjust pressure correctly.
Defective or misadjusted main relief valve - Adjust relief valve or change if required.
Contaminated hydraulic oil - Change hydraulic oil.
Not enough hydraulic oil in the system - Check oil level and add hydraulic oil as required.
Defective hydraulic pump - Repair or change pump if required.

Lift arm cannot be raised or lowered
Lift controls are faulty - Change or repair.
Damaged hydraulic oil pump - Repair or install new hydraulic pump.
Hydraulic control valve is faulty - Replace or repair the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder is broken - Repair or install a new lift cylinder.
Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.

Bucket can't tilt
Bucket controls failure - Inspect and repair if necessary.
Damaged hydraulic oil pump - Replace or repair pump if necessary.
Hydraulic control valve is defective - Repair or change hydraulic valve.
Bucket cylinder malfunction - Install a new cylinder or repair it.
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.

Slow bucket or lift arm operation
Hydraulic pump is defective - Flow-rate hydraulic pump and replace pump if necessary.
Oil leaks from hydraulic cylinder - Correct leakage by changing the seals.
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.
Worn or unadjusted hydraulic control valve - Adjust correctly or repair.
Hydraulic system loosing pressure - Adjust it correctly.

Jerky operation of the bucket or boom
Air in the hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Hydraulic oil filter element is dirty - Clean or replace the filter.
Dirty hydraulic oil - Change hydraulic oil.
Cylinder rod or tube is scuffed - Replace worn component.

Excessive hydraulic pump noise
Hydraulic leakage or lack of oil - Refill hydraulic oil or repair leaks in system.
Hydraulic filter is dirty - Clean or install new filter.
Suction line is clogged - Service the suction line.
Pump is sucking air - Need to bleed air.
Worn pump parts - Rebuild or replace hydraulic pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery is not charging
Wiring connections are loose or corroded - Service or tighten connections.
Battery terminal clamps are defective - Install new terminal clamps.
Bad cell in battery - Install a new battery.
Belt is worn or loose - Adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter turning slow
Battery power is low - Recharge the battery.
Battery won’t hold charge - Battery needs service or replacement.
Disconnected wiring or bad battery terminals - Check battery wires and service or replace terminals.

Starter motor won't turn
Battery is discharged or worn - Recharge or change battery.
Wire harness is disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wire harness and connect as required.
Low battery voltage - Battery is drained, charge it.
Defective starter motor - Change or repair starter.
