John Deere 324E Troubleshooting
The John Deere 324E skid steer loader driveline system components: Yanmar 4TNV98CT four-cylinder turbocharged intercooled diesel engine with a rated power of 70 hp (52.5 kW), and 1-speed or 2-speed hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 21 gal/min (79.6 l/min) or 29 gal/min (109.9 l/min). The John Deere 324E is equipped with a vertical-lift loader boom, 80HD drive chains, and 10.00x16.5 standard tires. The skid steer loader has a maximum lift height of 125.5" (3185 mm) to hinge pin and dump height of 100.9" (2560 mm). The rated operating capacity is 2690 lbs (1220 kg), and tipping load is 5380 lbs (2445 kg).

Faulty fuel injection nozzles - Replace injection nozzles.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust as recommended.
Engine stops while idle
Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Correct the settings.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Replacement or repair required.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Replace fuel injectors.
Incorrect valve clearance - Check and adjust.
Engine loses power
Dirty air cleaner - Clean or change cleaner.
Damaged or dirty injection nozzles - Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles.
Insufficient fuel injection pressure - Correct the pressure settings.
Valve out of adjustment - Check and adjust.
Low idle speed setting is not correct - Adjust as required.
Dirty fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel system hoses and lines.
Cylinder-head gasket is leaking - Install new cylinder head gasket.
Piston rings are leaking or defective - Piston rings replacement required.
Engine is overheated
Low coolant level - Add coolant fluid and inspect the cooling system for leaks.
Insufficient engine oil - Fill up the oil to required level.
Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator fins - Clean radiator or install new cap.
Excessive wear of the fan belt - Belt replacement is recommended.
Diesel engine is overloaded - Reduce engine load.
Insufficient oil pressure
Engine oil insufficient - Need to add oil.
Oil filter element clogged - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Oil grade or viscosity is wrong - Drain and refill with oil of correct grade and viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing oil clearance is incorrect - Bearing needs to be changed.
Worn oil pump - Repair or change.
Engine knocks or noises
Engine oil insufficient - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Engine not warmed up - Warm up engine as required.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust fuel injection pump as required.
Incorrect low idle setting - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Defective fuel injectors - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Misaligned or faulty connecting rod - Replace or align connecting rod.
Broken or worn pistons - Have pistons replaced.

Machine will not move in either direction or one direction
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.

Leaking hydraulic cylinder - Correct leakage by changing the seals.
Hydraulic fluid level low - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.
Hydraulic control valve is unadjusted or worn - Adjust correctly or repair.
Hydraulic pressure is low - Adjust pressure as required.
Bucket or boom movements are jerky
There is air in the hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.
Plugged hydraulic oil filter - Clean or install new filter.
Hydraulic oil contamination - The oil must be changed.
Scored cylinder tube or rod - Change failed component.
Excessive hydraulic pump noise
Not enough oil or hydraulic system leaking - Add hydraulic oil or correct system leaks.
Hydraulic filter is dirty - Clean or install new filter.
Suction line is dirty - Service the suction line.
Pump is sucking air - Air bleeding is required.
Worn pump components - Replace or rebuild the pump.
Electrical Troubleshooting |
Battery does not charge
Electrical cable connections are corroded or loose - Service or tighten connections.
Electrical terminal connectors are faulty - Install new terminal connectors.
Battery is defective - Change the battery.
Belt is defective or loose - Need to adjust belt tension or replace belt.
Starter cranks slow
Low battery output - Battery is drained, charge it.
Battery discharges quickly - Service or replace the battery.
Wires are disconnected or battery terminals are corroded - Check wire connections and change or service terminals.
Starter will not crank
Battery is low or faulty - Need to charge or replace the battery.
Disconnected or improperly connected wiring harness - Inspect battery wiring harness and connect as required.
Low battery power - Charge the battery.
Starter motor is defective - Repair or replace starter.
