Caterpillar 248 Troubleshooting
The Cat 248 skid steer loader driveline system components: Caterpillar 3034T 4-cycle vertical 4-cylinder direct injection turbocharged liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 74 hp (55 kW), and single-speed hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 22 gal/min (83 l/min) or 33 gal/min (125 l/min). The Caterpillar 248 is equipped with radial-lift loader boom, 100HS roller drive chains, and 12.00x16.5 tires. The loader has a boom breakout force of 4300 lbs (1955 kg) and bucket breakout force of 5250 lbs (2385 kg). The rated operating capacity is 2000 lbs (907 kg), and tipping load is 4000 lbs (1815 kg).

Engine hard to start or won't start
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.

Battery won’t charge
Wiring connections are loose or corroded - Tighten or service connections.

Dead cell in battery - Use a new battery.
Belt is defective or loose - Adjust belt tension or install a new belt.
Starter cranks slow
Low battery power - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Battery discharges quickly - Service or replace the battery.
Disconnected battery cables or bad terminals - Connect cables correctly or replace terminals.
Starter will not crank
Battery is drained or worn - Need to charge or replace the battery.
Disconnected or improperly connected wiring harness - Inspect battery wiring harness and connect as required.
Battery power is low - Recharge the battery.
Starter motor is faulty - Starter should be replaced.
