The
Caterpillar 236D skid steer loader is powered by 203.1 cu.in (3.3L) Caterpillar
C3.3B DIT four-cylinder turbocharged liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated
power of 73.2 hp (54.6 kW) at 2400 rpm. The Cat 236D is equipped with a
radial-lift loader boom, single-speed or two-speed hydrostatic transmission,
80HS drive chains, and 10.00x16.5 standard tires. The hydraulic system has a
pump with fluid flow rate of 20 gpm (76 lpm) or 30 gpm (112 lpm). The skid steer
loader has a rated operating capacity of 1800 lbs (820 kg) and tipping load of
3600 lbs (1640 kg). The lift height is 122.9" (3120 mm) to hinge pin, and
dump height is 92.9" (2360 mm).

Engine starts hard or will not start
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.

Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Adjust as recommended.
Engine stops when idling
Incorrect low idle setting - Adjust the low idle speed.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Repair or replace injection pump.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Replace fuel injectors.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Adjust valve clearance.
Engine power is insufficient
Plugged air cleaner - Clean or change.
Clogged injection nozzle - Replace injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pressure is wrong - Check the fuel injection pressure and adjust if necessary.
Improper valve clearance - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Correct the settings.
Restricted fuel lines or hoses - Clean fuel hoses and lines.
Cylinder head gasket is worn - Cylinder-head gasket replacement required.
Defective or worn piston rings - Replace piston rings.
Engine overheats
Low engine coolant - Fill radiator to proper level and check components for faults.

Low idle speed setting is not correct - Adjust the low idle speed.
Clogged or defective injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Misaligned or faulty connecting rod - Need to align or replace the connecting rod.
Piston wear or scoring - Install new pistons.
