Case SV340B Troubleshooting

The Case SV340B skid steer loader driveline system components: FPT F5B FL413D 4-cylinder direct injection turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 91.2 hp (68 kW), and 1-speed or 2-speed hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 24.2 gal/min (91.5 l/min) or 38.7 gal/min (146.5 l/min). The Case SV340B is equipped with a vertical-lift loader boom, ASA 100 drive chains, and 14.00x17.5 standard tires. The skid steer loader has a rated operating capacity of 3400 lbs (1545 kg) and tipping load of 6800 lbs (3090 kg). The boom breakout force is 6815 lbs (3100 kg), and bucket breakout force is 9530 lbs (4330 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts hard or won't start
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Fuel filter plugging - Replace filter element.
Burnt or defective injection nozzle - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Valve out of adjustment - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump failure - Replace or rebuild injection pump.

Diesel starts but stalls immediately
Clogged air filter - Clean or change filter.
Fuel filter plugged - Install new filter element.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Fuel injection pump failure - Replace or rebuild injection pump.

Engine stalls while running
Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature - Warm up the engine.
Fuel filter plugging - Change filter element.
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Fuel injection nozzles are clogged or faulty - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Check the fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stops while idle
Low idle speed set incorrectly - Correct low idle settings.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Rebuild or change fuel pump.
Defective fuel injectors - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Adjustment procedure required.

Lack of engine power
Plugged air cleaner - Clean or change.
Damaged or dirty injection nozzles - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pressure is wrong - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly.
Improper valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance.
Too low idle RPM - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Restricted fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel hoses and lines.
Defective cylinder head gasket - Gasket should be replaced.
Leaking or damaged piston rings - Piston rings replacement required.

Engine overheated
Lack of coolant in cooling system - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Not enough engine oil - Fill up the engine oil.
Clogged radiator fins or damaged radiator cap - Change cap or clean radiator.
Damaged or worn fan belt - The fan belt needs to be replaced.
Engine overloaded - Load reducing is recommended.

Oil pressure is low
Engine oil level low - Fill crankcase to proper oil level.
Oil filter is dirty - Change or service engine oil filter.
Oil grade or viscosity is incorrect - Fill up with the correct oil viscosity.
Incorrect crankshaft bearing oil clearance - Bearings need to be reinstalled.
Worn oil pump - Repair or replace.

Abnormal engine knocking or noise
Not enough engine oil - Need to add engine oil.
Engine is not fully warmed up - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Adjust according to specifications.
Incorrect low idle speed adjustment - Correct the settings.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Connecting rod failure or misalignment - Alignment procedure or replacement is required.
Pistons are worn or scored - Have pistons replaced.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Machine will not move in either direction or one direction
Hydraulic oil level is low - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.
Drive chain fault - Check drive chain and change faulty components.
Worn or defective relief valve - Rebuild or install a new relief valve.
Suction line or hydraulic filter is dirty - Clean suction line or replace hydraulic filter.
Worn or damaged foot or hand controls - Inspect and repair if necessary.
Drive motor or pump is defective - Inspect and change as required.

Power is too low
Hydraulic oil filter is dirty - Replace hydraulic filter.
Damaged or opened relief valve - Replace or close relief valve.
Faulty or damaged transmission components - Check and change faulty components.
Stuck input drive shaft - Faulty drive shaft need to be replaced or repair.
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Bleed hydraulic system.

Drive system keeps overheating
Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Check and refill the hydraulic fluid.
Dirty hydraulic fluid filter - Change hydraulic filter.
Worn or damaged relief valve - Repair or install a new relief valve.
Drive pump or hydraulic motor is damaged - Replace or repair faulty component.
Hydraulic oil cooler is dirty - Cooling fins need to be cleaned.
Transmission overloading - Reduce loading.

Excessive noise
Oil viscosity is too heavy - Use correct oil viscosity.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump failure - Inspect and change as required.
Worn or damaged mechanical components of drive system - Check the components for defect or damage and change if necessary.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system overheating
Hydraulic pressure is incorrect - Correct setting is required.
Unadjusted or defective main relief valve - Adjust relief valve or change if required.
Hydraulic oil is dirty - Hydraulic oil change required.
Not enough hydraulic oil in the system - Check oil level and add hydraulic oil as required.
Hydraulic pump is defective - Repair or replace pump if necessary.

Lift arm cannot be raised or lowered
Faulty lift controls - Check and repair as required.
Damaged hydraulic oil pump - Repair or install new hydraulic pump.
Faulty hydraulic control valve - Repair or change the valve.
Damaged hydraulic cylinder - Install a new boom cylinder or repair it.
Hydraulic oil level low - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.

Bucket is not working
Defective bucket controls - Change or repair.
Damaged hydraulic oil pump - Change or repair hydraulic pump if required.
Defective hydraulic control valve - Repair or replace the valve.
Faulty hydraulic bucket cylinder - Repair or change cylinder.
Low hydraulic oil level - Need to add oil.

Bucket or lift arm is working slowly
Hydraulic pump is faulty - Test the pump flow rate and change pump if required.
Leaking hydraulic cylinder - Change cylinder piston seals.
Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.
Hydraulic control valve is faulty or out of adjustment - Repair or set correctly.
Hydraulic pressure has dropped - Correct setting is required.

Bucket or boom jerks when working
Air in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Plugged hydraulic oil filter - Replace or clean the filter.
Hydraulic fluid is contaminated - Hydraulic fluid change required.
Cylinder tube or rod scoring - Change worn component.

Excessive hydraulic pump noise
Leaking hydraulic system or insufficient oil level - Add hydraulic oil or correct system leaks.
Hydraulic filter is dirty - Clean or replace the filter.
Plugged suction line - Clean suction line as required.
Air enters the pump - Remove air from hydraulics.
Pump components are damaged - Change or rebuild pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery does not charge
Corroded or loose wire connections - Clean or tighten wiring connections.
Electrical terminal connectors are defective - Install new terminal connectors.
Defective battery - Use a new battery.
Worn or loose belt - Install a new belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter motor cranks slow
Low battery power - Charge the battery.
Battery drains quickly - Service charging system or change battery.
Bad terminals or disconnected battery cables - Check wiring and clean or replace terminals.

Starter does not work
Battery is discharged or defective - Need to charge or replace the battery.
Battery wires are disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wires and connect correctly.
Low battery power - Battery is drained, recharge it.
Starter motor is defective - Starter needs to be changed.
