Case SR270 Troubleshooting

The Case SR270 skid steer loader driveline system components: 207 cu.in (3.4L) FPT F5B FL413 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 84 hp (63 kW), and 1-speed or 2-speed hydro transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 24.2 gal/min (91.5 l/min) or 37.6 gal/min (142.5 l/min). The Case SR270 is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, ASA 100 drive chains, and 12x16.5 or 33x15.5x16.5 tires. The skid steer loader has a rated operating capacity of 2700 lbs (1225 kg) and tipping load of 5400 lbs (2450 kg). The boom breakout force is 6100 lbs (2770 kg), and bucket breakout force is 8680 lbs (3945 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts hard or won't start
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Dirty fuel filter - Install new filter element.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Valve out of adjustment - Adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump damage - Rebuild or replace pump.

Diesel starts and then shuts off
Air cleaner is clogged - Service or replace air cleaner.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Clean or change the filter.
Fuel injection pump has loose connections - Tighten the connections.
Clogged or defective injectors - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.

Engine stalls during operation
Engine is cold - Warm up engine as required.
Clogged fuel filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Air in fuel system - Bleed fuel system.
Dirty or faulty injection nozzles - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Adjust according to specifications.

Engine stalls at low idle speed
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Install a new pump or rebuild.
Defective fuel injectors - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance.

Engine power is too low
Clogged air cleaner - Service or replace air cleaner.
Clogged or burnt injection nozzle - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Fuel injection pressure is wrong - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly.
Valve out of adjustment - Correct valve clearance.
Low idle speed setting is not correct - Need to adjust idle speed.
Fuel hoses or lines are dirty - Fuel hoses and lines must be clean.
Damaged cylinder-head gasket - Gasket should be replaced.
Worn or broken piston rings - Replace the piston rings as required.

Engine overheated
Coolant level is low - Add coolant fluid and inspect the cooling system for leaks.
Lack of engine oil - Need to add engine oil.
Radiator core is dirty or radiator cap is damaged - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Fan belt slipping or worn - Install new fan belt.
Engine is under excessive load - Load reducing required.

Insufficient oil pressure
Low oil level - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Clogged oil filter - Change or clean engine oil filter element.
Oil grade or viscosity is wrong - Fill up with the correct oil viscosity.
Excessive main bearing oil clearance - Bearing replacement required.
Oil pump failure - Replace as required.

Engine knocks or noises
Not enough engine oil - Fill up the engine oil.
Engine is cold -Warm up the engine as required.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjust as required.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Connecting rod is defective or misaligned - Need to change or align the connecting rod.
Pistons are broken or worn - Pistons replacement required.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Drive system doesn't function in one direction or either direction
Low hydraulic oil level - Need to add oil.
Damaged drive chain - Check drive chain and change faulty components.
Defective or worn relief valve - Repair or replace relief valve.
Plugged hydraulic filter or suction line - Clean suction line or change hydraulic filter.
Hand or foot controls malfunction - Replace or repair.
Drive motor or pump is worn - Replace or repair faulty component.

Power is too low
Hydraulic oil filter is dirty - Change or clean hydraulic filter.
Opened or defective relief valve - Close or replace relief valve.
Faulty or worn transmission components - Check and change faulty components.
Stuck input drive shaft - Service or change faulty drive shaft.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.

Drive system is overheated
Insufficient hydraulic oil - Need to add oil.
Hydraulic fluid filter is plugged - Replace or service hydraulic filter.
Relief valve malfunction - Change or repair defective relief valve.
Drive pump or hydraulic motor is damaged - Replace or repair faulty component.
Plugged hydraulic oil cooler - Clean the cooling fins.
Drive system overloaded continuously - Reduce drive system load.

Excessive noise
Oil viscosity is wrong - Use oil of correct viscosity.
Air in the hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.
Drive pump or hydraulic motor malfunction - Repair or replace faulty component.
Mechanical parts of drive system are defective or worn - Check the components for worn or defect and replace if necessary.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system overheating
Hydraulic pressure is not adjusted correctly - Adjust pressure correctly.
Misadjusted or defective main relief valve - Set up or change the relief valve.
Hydraulic fluid is dirty - The fluid must be changed.
Lack of hydraulic fluid - Check and refill the hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic pump is worn - Repair or change pump if required.

Lift arm can't drop or lift
Defective lift controls - Repair or replace.
Damaged hydraulic oil pump - Replace or repair pump if necessary.
Defective hydraulic control valve - Repair or change hydraulic valve.
Hydraulic cylinder is faulty - Repair or change hydraulic cylinder.
Hydraulic fluid level low - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.

Bucket can't tilt
Damaged bucket controls - Repair or replace.
Hydraulic pump failure - Repair or change pump if required.
Faulty hydraulic control valve - Replace or repair the valve.
Defective bucket cylinder - Replace or repair cylinder.
Hydraulic oil level low - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.

Bucket or lift arm functions slowly
Hydraulic pump is worn - Check pump capacity and change if necessary.
Hydraulic cylinder oil leakage - Cylinder seals need to be replaced.
Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Damaged or incorrect adjusted hydraulic control valve - Set correctly or repair.
Hydraulic system loosing pressure - Correct setting is required.

Lift arm or bucket is jerky
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Service or replace the hydraulic filter.
Hydraulic fluid is contaminated - Hydraulic fluid change required.
Cylinder rod or tube is scratched - Change failed component.

Hydraulic pump is noisy
Lack of oil or hydraulic leakage - Top up hydraulic oil or remedy leakage in system.
Plugged hydraulic filter - Clean or change the filter.
Suction line clogging - Need to clean the suction line.
Pump sucks air - Bleed air.
Faulty pump parts - Change or rebuild pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery does not charge
Loose or corroded cable connections - Tighten or clean connections.
Battery terminal connectors are defective - Install new terminal connectors.
Battery bad cell - Change the battery.
Defective or loose belt - Change belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter cranks slow
Battery power is low - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Battery drains quickly - Service battery or change it.
Wires are disconnected or battery terminals are corroded - Check cables and clean or change terminals.

Starter doesn't crank
Battery is discharged or defective - Battery needs to be recharged or replaced.
Wiring is incorrectly connected or disconnected - Inspect wiring and connect correctly.
Battery power is low - Recharge the battery.
Starter motor failure - Repair or change starter.
