Case SR150 Troubleshooting

The Case SR150 skid steer loader driveline system components: a 135.2 cu.in (2.2L) ISM Shibaura N844LT-D-ROW 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 57 hp (42.3 kW), and 1-speed hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 15.6 gal/min (59 l/min). The system pressure is 3000 psi (207 bar). The Case SR150 is equipped with a radial-lift boom, ASA 80 drive chains, and 10x16.5 standard tires. The skid steer loader has a maximum lift height of 112" (2845 mm) to hinge pin and dump height of 88.4" (2245 mm). The rated operating capacity is 1500 lbs (680 kg), and tipping load is 3000 lbs (1360 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts hard or will not start
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Dirty fuel filter - Install new filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged - Service or change injection nozzles.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Improper valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Rebuild or change fuel pump.

Diesel starts and suddenly stops
Dirty air filter - Change or service air filter element.
Fuel filter plugging - Replace filter element.
Fuel injection pump leakage - Check the fuel injection pump for leaks and fix it.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Defective fuel injection pump - Install a new fuel pump or repair.

Diesel shuts off while driving
Low coolant temperature - Warm up the engine.
Fuel filter is plugged - Change filter element.
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Fuel injection nozzles fault - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.

Engine stalls at low idle speed
Too low idle RPM - Correct low idle settings.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Repair or replace injection pump.
Defective fuel injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Valve clearance is not correct - Have it adjusted.

Engine loses power
Dirty air cleaner - Clean or replace air cleaner element.
Dirty or faulty injection nozzles - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Fuel injection pressure is incorrect - Check the fuel injection pressure and adjust if necessary.
Improper valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance according to specifications.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Normalize low idle speed.
Restricted fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel hoses and lines.
Damaged cylinder-head gasket - Install new cylinder head gasket.
Worn or broken piston rings - Piston rings replacement required.

Engine overheating
Low coolant level - The cooling system needs to be refilled and checked for faults.
Not enough engine oil - Need to add engine oil.
Faulty radiator cap or dirty radiator fins - Replace cap or clean radiator.
Fan belt is worn or faulty - Belt replacement is recommended.
Engine overloaded - Reduce engine load.

Low oil pressure
Engine oil insufficient - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Clogged oil filter element - Clean or replace engine oil filter element.
Different type of engine oil - Use correct viscosity oil.
Crankshaft bearing has incorrect oil clearance - Change bearings.
Defective oil pump - Install a new pump.

Engine knocking sound or abnormal noise
Engine oil insufficient - Check and refill engine oil.
Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Set it up as required.
Low idle speed setting is not correct - Adjustment required.
Fuel injector fault - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Misaligned or defective connecting rod - Connecting rod must be aligned or replaced.
Piston wear or scoring - Pistons replacement required.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Machine will not move in either direction or one direction
Low hydraulic oil level - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.
Faulty drive chain - Inspect drive chain and replace faulty parts.
Relief valve is damaged or worn - Service or change relief valve.
Dirty suction line or hydraulic filter - Clean suction line or replace hydraulic filter.
Defective hand or foot controls - Inspect and repair if necessary.
Damaged drive pump or motor - Change or repair faulty component.

Reduced power
Clogged hydraulic oil filter - Change or clean hydraulic filter.
Defective or open relief valve - Replace or close relief valve.
Defective or worn transmission parts - Inspect and replace faulty parts.
Damaged input drive shaft - Repair or replace drive shaft.
Air in the hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.

Drive system overheats
Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.
Clogged hydraulic fluid filter - Change hydraulic filter.
Relief valve malfunction - Rebuild or install a new relief valve.
Drive pump or hydraulic motor is damaged - Replace or repair faulty component.
Plugged hydraulic oil cooler - Cooling fins need to be cleaned.
Drive system overloaded continuously - Reduce drive system load.

Drive system is noisy
Incorrect oil viscosity - Use correct oil viscosity.
Air in hydraulic system - Need to bleed air.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump failure - Replace or repair faulty component.
Mechanical components of drive system are damaged or worn - Inspect drive system and replace faulty parts.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system overheats
Hydraulic pressure incorrectly adjusted - Correct setting is required.
Main relief valve is defective or unadjusted - Replace or set up the relief valve.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
Lack of hydraulic fluid - Check and refill the hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic pump is faulty - Repair or change pump if required.

Boom cannot be lowered or raised
Faulty lift controls - Check and repair as required.
Hydraulic pump not working - Replace or repair pump if necessary.
Hydraulic control valve failure - Repair or change hydraulic valve.

Bucket can't tilt

Defective hydraulic control valve - Repair or replace the valve.
Broken bucket cylinder - Replace or repair cylinder.
Hydraulic oil level low - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.

Bucket or lift arm is moving slowly
Hydraulic pump is defective - Test pump flow rate and replace pump if required.
Oil leaks from hydraulic cylinder - Correct leakage by changing the seals.
Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic control valve is defective or set improper - Repair or adjust properly.
Hydraulic system loosing pressure - Adjust pressure as required.

Lift arm or bucket is working jerkily
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.
Plugged hydraulic oil filter - Change or clean oil filter.
Contaminated hydraulic oil - Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil.
Cylinder rod or tube is scratched - Change failed component.

Hydraulic pump is excessively noisy
Hydraulic leaks or lack of oil - Top up hydraulic oil or remedy leakage in system.
Dirty hydraulic filter - Replace or clean the filter.
Suction line is dirty - Service the suction line.
Air enters the pump - Air bleeding is required.
Worn pump components - Install new hydraulic pump or rebuild it.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery does not charge
Loose or corroded wire connections - Clean or tighten wiring connections.
Defective electrical terminal connectors - Terminal connectors should be replaced.
Worn-out battery - Replace the battery.
Loose or damaged belt - Change belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter turns slowly
Low battery power - Battery needs to be recharged.
Battery runs out quickly - Service or change the battery.
Bad terminals or disconnected battery cables - Check cables and service or change terminals.

Starter motor won't turn
Battery is discharged or worn - Recharge or replace battery.
Battery wires are disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wires and connect correctly.
Low battery output voltage - Recharge the battery.
Starter motor is faulty - Repair or install a new starter.
