ASV RT-50 Troubleshooting

The ASV RT50 compact track loader driveline system components: a 135 cu.in (2.2L) Perkins 404D-22 4-cycle 4-cylinder indirect injection liquid cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 50 hp (37.3 kW) and single-speed hydro transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated flow of 16.3 gpm (61.7 lpm). The system pressure is 3000 psi (207 bar). The ASV RT-50 is equipped with a radial-lift boom, 15" (380 mm) rubber tracks with embedded co-polymer cords, and elevated track drive sprockets. The loader has a maximum lift height of 115.5" (2920 mm) to hinge pin. The rated operating capacity is 1600 lbs (725 kg), and tipping load is 4570 lbs (2070 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine hard to start or will not start
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Change filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Repair or install new pump.

Engine starts but then stops
Clogged air filter - Clean or replace element.
Fuel filter plugged - Change the filter element.
Poor fuel injection pump tightness - Look for any leaks of fuel pump, tighten it fast.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump damage - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.

Engine shuts off suddenly during operation
Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature - Warm up the engine as required.
Fuel filter plugging - Replace filter element.
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Check the fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stalls at low idle speed
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Install a new pump or rebuild.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Replace fuel injectors.
Improper valve clearance - Check and adjust.

Diesel engine is losing power
Air filter is clogged - Clean or change filter.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Service or change injection nozzles.
Incorrect fuel injection pressure - Adjust to correct pressure.
Incorrect valve clearance - Have it adjusted.
Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Correct low idle settings.
Restricted fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel system lines and hoses.
Cylinder head gasket is worn - Gasket should be replaced.
Piston rings are damaged or leaking - Replace piston rings.

Engine overheating
Coolant level is low - Fill radiator to proper level and check components for faults.
Insufficient engine oil - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator fins - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Loose or defective fan belt - Change the fan belt.
Engine overloaded - Reduce load on the engine.

Low oil pressure
Engine oil level low - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Oil filter is clogged - Change or clean engine oil filter element.
Incorrect oil viscosity - Use oil of correct viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing oil clearance is incorrect - Change bearings.
Defective oil pump - Repair or replace.

Abnormal engine knocking or noise
Engine oil insufficient - Need to add engine oil.
Engine is not fully warmed up - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Adjust as recommended.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Correct the settings.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Misaligned or defective connecting rod - Align or replace connecting rod.
Pistons are worn or broken - Replace the pistons as required.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Drive system сan't work in either direction
Insufficient hydraulic oil - Fill the system to proper hydraulic oil level.
Blocked or defective undercarriage tracks - Remove blockage or repair tracks.
Relief valve is damaged or worn - Relief valve need to be replaced or repair.
Plugged hydraulic filter or suction line - Replace hydraulic filter or clean suction line.
Worn or defective hand or foot controls - Change or repair.
Worn drive motor or pump - Inspect and replace as necessary.

Machine won't move straight or moves jerky
Track mechanism is defective or jammed - Repair or remove jamming.
Tracks are sagging or malfunctioning - Replace tracks or adjust track sag with tension.
Undercarriage track frame is clogged with dirt, debris, or foreign objects - Remove foreign objects or debris and clean undercarriage track frame.

Reduced power
Hydraulic oil filter is dirty - Change hydraulic filter.
Open or damaged relief valve - Close or change relief valve.
Transmission components are defective or worn - Inspect and replace defective parts.
Stuck input drive shaft - Service or change faulty drive shaft.
Air in the hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.

Drive system overheats
Insufficient hydraulic oil - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic fluid filter is dirty - Replace hydraulic filter.
Relief valve malfunction - Repair or change.
Drive pump or hydraulic motor malfunction - Check and repair if required.
Hydraulic oil cooler is dirty - Clean the cooling fins.
Transmission overloading - Reduce loading.

Drive system is excessively noisy
Oil viscosity is too heavy - Drain and refill with correct oil.
Air in hydraulic system - Need to bleed air.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump failure - Check and repair if required.
Defective or worn mechanical components of drive system - Check the parts for worn or defect and replace if required.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system is overheated
Hydraulic pressure incorrectly adjusted - Correct adjustment is required.
Main relief valve is defective or unadjusted - Adjust or replace the relief valve.
Hydraulic oil is dirty - Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic oil level is insufficient - Fill up the hydraulic oil.
Defective hydraulic pump - Repair or replace pump if necessary.

Lift arm cannot be raised or lowered
Damaged lift controls - Replace or repair.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Repair or change pump if required.
Hydraulic control valve malfunction - Repair or change hydraulic valve.
Hydraulic cylinder is faulty - Install a new boom cylinder or repair it.
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.

Bucket tilt does not work
Bucket tilt controls malfunction - Repair or replace.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Change or repair hydraulic pump if required.
Defective hydraulic control valve - Install a new hydraulic valve or repair it.
Damaged bucket cylinder - Change or repair cylinder.
Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.

Bucket or lift arm is working slowly
Defective hydraulic pump - Check pump flow and change pump if necessary.
Leaking hydraulic cylinder - Cylinder seals need to be replaced.
Low hydraulic oil level - Need to add oil.
Faulty or incorrect setting hydraulic control valve - Repair or set correctly.
Hydraulic system loosing pressure - Correct adjustment is required.

Bucket or boom movements are jerky
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Bleed hydraulic system.
Plugged hydraulic oil filter - Service or replace the hydraulic filter.
Hydraulic oil contamination - The oil must be changed.
Cylinder tube or rod scoring - Change failed component.

Excessive hydraulic pump noise
Hydraulic leakage or lack of oil - Refill hydraulic oil or repair leaks in system.
Dirty hydraulic filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Clogged suction line - Service the suction line.
Air enters the pump - Bleed air.
Faulty pump components - Rebuild or change hydraulic pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery does not charge
Loose or corroded wire connections - Tighten or clean connections.
Faulty battery terminal clamps - Install new terminal clamps.
Battery bad cell - Battery replacement required.
Loose or worn belt - Need to adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter turns slow
Battery voltage is low - Battery is drained, charge it.
Battery drains quickly - Service battery or change it.
Bad battery terminals or disconnected wiring - Connect wires correctly or change terminals.

Starter does not work
Battery is discharged or worn - Recharge or change battery.
Disconnected or improperly connected wiring harness - Inspect battery wiring harness and connect as required.
Low battery power - Battery is drained, charge it.
Starter motor failing - Starter should be replaced.
