Takeuchi TL220 Troubleshooting

The Takeuchi TL220 compact track loader driveline system components: a 121.7 cu.in (2 L) Yanmar 4TNV84T 4-stroke 4-cylinder turbocharged liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 51.5 hp (38.5 kW), and two-speed hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated flow of 15 gpm (57 lpm). The Takeuchi TL220 is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, hydraulic disc brake, 11.8" (300 mm) rubber tracks, and hydraulic self leveling. The loader has a maximum lift height of 114.4" (2905 mm) to hinge pin and dump height of 89.5" (2275 mm). The rated operating capacity is 1770 lbs (805 kg), and tipping load is 3540 lbs (1610 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine difficult to start or doesn't start
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Filter maintenance required.
Burnt or clogged injection nozzle - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Check and adjust.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Replace injection pump or repair it.

Engine starts and stalls suddenly
Air cleaner is dirty - Install new air cleaner element.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Replace the filter element.
Fuel injection pump has loose connections - Tighten the connections.
Defective or clogged fuel injectors - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Damaged fuel injection pump - Repair or change injection pump.

Engine stops running suddenly
Low coolant temperature - Warm up the engine.
Fuel filter is plugged - Clean the filter or install new filter element.
Air in the fuel pipes - Bleed the fuel pipes.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Service or change injection nozzles.
Improper fuel injection timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.

Engine stalls at idle
Too low idle RPM - Normalize low idle speed.
Fuel injection pump failure - Install a new pump or rebuild.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Test and replace fuel injectors if necessary.
Valve clearance is wrong - Check and adjust as required.

Engine power is too low
Air cleaner is dirty - Service or replace air cleaner.
Defective or clogged injection nozzle - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Improper fuel injection pressure - Adjust to correct pressure.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Check and adjust as required.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Dirt in the fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel lines and hoses.
Damaged cylinder-head gasket - Replace the gasket as required.
Piston rings are defective or leaking - Replace piston rings.

Engine overheating
Lack of coolant in cooling system - Refill to the correct level and inspect system for leaks.
Lack of engine oil - Need to add engine oil.
Radiator fins are dirty or radiator cap is defective - Change cap or clean radiator.
Loose or defective fan belt - Belt change is required.
Diesel engine overloaded - Reduce load on the engine.

Oil pressure too low
Oil level is low - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Oil filter clogged - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Oil grade or viscosity is incorrect - Fill up with the proper oil viscosity.
Incorrect crankshaft bearing oil clearance - Bearing needs to be changed.
Defective oil pump - Replace as required.

Engine noises or knocks
Engine oil level is insufficient - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Engine is not preheated - Warm up the engine.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Adjust according to specifications.

Jammed or damaged undercarriage tracks - Remedy jamming or repair tracks.
Input drive shaft is faulty - Replace or service the drive shaft.
Relief valve is damaged - Repair or replace.
Plugged suction line or hydraulic filter - Check, clean, or change if necessary.
Defective or worn foot or hand controls - Change or repair.
Drive motor or pump failure - Repair or change faulty component.

Machine is not moving straight or moving is jerky
Undercarriage tracks are jammed or defective - Remedy jamming or repair tracks.
Tracks are faulty or improperly tensioned - Adjust track tension or repair tracks.
Undercarriage track frame is clogged with dirt, debris, or foreign objects - Clean track frame, remove debris and foreign objects.

Power is too low
Hydraulic oil filter is plugged - Change or clean hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is worn or opened - Replace or close relief valve.
Defective or worn transmission parts - Check and change defective components.
Stuck input drive shaft - Service or change faulty drive shaft.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.

Drive system keeps overheating
Hydraulic oil level is low - Need to add oil.
Hydraulic fluid filter is clogged - Change or clean hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is damaged or worn - Service or change relief valve.
Damaged drive pump or hydraulic motor - Inspect and replace as necessary.
Hydraulic oil cooler is plugged - Cooling fins need to be cleaned.
Drive system is overloaded - Reduce drive system load.

Drive system is noisy
Incorrect oil viscosity - Use oil of correct viscosity.

Battery is not charging

Battery faulty cell - Battery replacement required.
Belt is damaged or loose - Adjust belt tension or install a new belt.

Starter turning slow
Battery capacity is low - Charge the battery.
Battery won’t hold charge - Service charging system or replace battery.
Battery terminals are corroded or wires are disconnected - Check cables and clean or change terminals.

Starter is not working
Battery is discharged or worn - Change or recharge battery.
Battery wires are disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wires and connect correctly.
