Takeuchi TL12 Troubleshooting

The Takeuchi TL12 compact track loader driveline system components: a 230 cu.in (3.8L) Kubota V3800-CR-T 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 109.9 hp (82 kW), and two-speed hydro transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated flow of 23 gpm (87 lpm) or 40 gpm (152 lpm). The Takeuchi TL12 is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, 17.7" (450 mm) rubber tracks, permanently sealed track rollers, and hydraulic self leveling. The loader has a maximum lift height of 126.2" (3205 mm) to hinge pin and dump height of 95.9" (2430 mm). The rated operating capacity is 4050 lbs (1838 kg), and tipping load is 8100 lbs (3676 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Diesel engine hard to start or doesn't start
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Fuel filter plugging - Service or replace the filter.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
The valve clearance is not adjusted - Adjust valve clearance according to specifications.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Change or repair the pump.

Engine starts and immediately shuts off
Air filter is plugged - Clean or replace element.
Clogged fuel filter - Clean the filter or install new filter element.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Repair or install new pump.

Engine shuts off while running
Low coolant temperature - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Fuel filter is plugged - Replace the filter element.
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Clogged injection nozzle - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stalls at idle
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Correct the settings.
Damaged fuel injection pump - Rebuild or change fuel pump.
Dirty or defective injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Valve clearance is not correct - Adjust to proper valve clearance.

Loss of engine power
Clogged air cleaner - Install new air cleaner element.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Incorrect fuel injection pressure - Adjust to proper pressure.
Valve clearance is not correct - Have it adjusted.
Low idle speed setting is not correct - Correct the settings.
Dirt in the fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel hoses and lines.
Cylinder head gasket defective - Install new cylinder head gasket.
Piston rings are broken or leaking - Replace piston rings.

Engine overheated
Lack of engine coolant - Refill to the correct level and inspect system for leaks.
Insufficient engine oil - Fill up the oil to required level.
Clogged radiator core or damaged radiator cap - Clean radiator or change cap.
Fan belt slipping or worn - Replace the fan belt.
Diesel engine is overloaded - Load reducing required.

Oil pressure is insufficient
Engine oil level low - Add oil as required.
Oil filter is clogged - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Oil grade or viscosity is incorrect - Use oil of correct viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing oil clearance is incorrect - Change bearings.
Oil pump failure - Repair or change.

Engine noises or knocks
Not enough engine oil - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Engine is not preheated - Warm up the engine.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Check the fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Test and adjust.
Dirty or defective injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Connecting rod is not aligned or worn - Align or replace connecting rod.
Worn or broken pistons - Pistons need to be replaced.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Machine will not move in either direction or one direction
Hydraulic oil level is low - Need to add oil.
Damaged or jammed undercarriage tracks - Remove jamming or repair tracks.
Input drive shaft is defective - Replace drive shaft.
Relief valve is damaged or worn - Service or change relief valve.
Clogged hydraulic filter or suction line - Change hydraulic filter or service suction line.
Hand or foot controls failure - Repair or change.
Worn drive motor or pump - Replace or repair faulty component.

Machine does not move straight or moves jerky
Undercarriage tracks are defective or jammed - Repair or remedy jamming.
Tracks are loose or worn - Adjust track tension properly or repair tracks.
Foreign objects, debris, or dirt stuck in track frame - Remove debris or foreign objects and clean track frame.

Low power
Plugged hydraulic oil filter - Change hydraulic filter.
Open or damaged relief valve - Close or change relief valve.
Faulty or worn transmission components - Inspect and replace faulty parts.
Input drive shaft is damaged - Service or change faulty drive shaft.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.

Drive system overheats
Hydraulic fluid level low - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.
Dirty hydraulic fluid filter - Check, clean, or replace as required.
Relief valve is not working correctly - Repair or change.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is defective - Repair or replace faulty component.
Plugged hydraulic oil cooler - Cooling fins need to be cleaned.
Drive system is overloaded - Reduce the load.

Drive system is noisy
Wrong oil viscosity - Use oil of correct viscosity.
Air in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Worn hydraulic motor or drive pump - Change or repair faulty component.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system has overheating

Boom or bucket moves slowly
Defective hydraulic pump - Flow-rate pump and change pump if necessary.
Hydraulic cylinder oil leakage - Repair leak by replacing the seals.
Hydraulic fluid level low - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Faulty or incorrect setting hydraulic control valve - Repair or adjust correctly.
Hydraulic pressure has dropped - Adjust it correctly.

Bucket or boom jerks when working
Air in the hydraulic system - Need to bleed air.
Plugged hydraulic oil filter - Service or change the hydraulic filter.
Contaminated hydraulic oil - The oil must be changed.
Cylinder tube or rod scoring - Change damaged component.

Excessive hydraulic pump noise
Hydraulic system leaking or not enough oil - Refill hydraulic oil or repair leaks in system.
Clogged hydraulic filter - Service or change hydraulic filter.
Suction line clogging - Suction line must be serviced.
Air enters the pump - Bleed air from hydraulics.
Pump components are damaged - Rebuild or replace hydraulic pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery is not charging
Electrical wire connections are corroded or loose - Service or tighten connections.
Battery terminal connectors are faulty - Install new terminal connectors.
Worn-out battery - Battery change required.
Damaged or loose belt - Adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter turns slowly
Low battery output - Charge the battery.
Battery is draining quickly - Service battery or change it.
Disconnected wiring or bad battery terminals - Check cables and service or change terminals.

Starter motor won't turn
Battery is drained or worn - Charge or change the battery.
Wiring is incorrectly connected or disconnected - Inspect wiring and connect correctly.
Battery voltage is low - Battery needs to be recharged.
Starter motor is faulty - Repair or install a new starter.
