Takeuchi TL120 Troubleshooting
The
Takeuchi TL120 compact track loader is powered by 121.7 cu.in (2L) Yanmar
4TNV84T vertical inline four-cylinder turbocharged liquid-cooled diesel engine
with a rated power of 51.5 hp (38.5 kW) at 2800 rpm. The Takeuchi TL120 is
equipped with a two-speed hydrostatic transmission, radial-lift loader boom,
hydraulic self leveling, 11.8" (300 mm) rubber tracks, and hydraulic disc brake.
The hydraulic system has a pump with fluid flow rate of 15 gpm (57 lpm). The
track loader has a rated operating capacity of 1770 lbs (805 kg) and tipping
load of 3540 lbs (1610 kg). The lift height is 114.4 inches (2905 mm) to hinge
pin, and dump height is 89.6 inches (2275 mm).
Engine Troubleshooting |
Engine starts hard or won't start
Air in the fuel pipes - Bleed the fuel pipes.
Dirty fuel filter - Clean the filter or install new filter element.
Burnt or clogged injection nozzle - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Valve clearance is wrong - Check and adjust as required.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Repair or change injection pump.
Diesel starts but immediately shuts off
Plugged air cleaner - Service or replace air cleaner.
Dirty fuel filter - Change filter element.
Poor fuel injection pump tightness - Look for any leaks of fuel pump, tighten it fast.
Defective or clogged fuel injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Repair or replace injection pump.
Engine stops unexpectedly during operation
Engine is not fully warmed up - Warm up engine as required.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Replace filter element.
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Adjust according to specifications.
Engine stalls when idle
Incorrect low idle setting - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injection pump damage - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.
Clogged or defective injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Valve out of adjustment - Check and adjust.
Engine lacks power
Plugged air filter - Clean or change filter.
Fuel injection nozzles fault - Replace injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pressure is incorrect - Check the fuel injection pressure and adjust if necessary.
The valve clearance is not adjusted - Have it adjusted.
Incorrect low idle speed adjustment - Correct low idle settings.
Fuel lines or hoses clogging - Clean fuel system lines and hoses.
Damaged cylinder-head gasket - Install new cylinder head gasket.
Piston rings are worn or defective - Piston rings replacement required.
Engine overheated
Engine coolant is insufficient - Top up coolant fluid and check system for leaks.
Engine oil insufficient - Fill up the engine oil.
Radiator fins are clogged or radiator cap is faulty - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Damaged or worn fan belt - Replace the fan belt.
Engine is overloaded - Reduce engine load.
Oil pressure is insufficient
Low crankcase oil level - Fill the crankcase with oil.
Oil filter element clogged - Change or clean engine oil filter element.
Oil grade or viscosity is incorrect - Use oil of correct viscosity.
Incorrect crankshaft bearing oil clearance - Install new bearings.
Oil pump is worn or damaged - Remove and inspect oil pump.
Engine noises or knocks
Engine oil level is insufficient - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up to required temperature.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Connecting rod misalignment or failure - Align or change connecting rod.
Broken or worn pistons - Replace the pistons.

Drive system won't operate in either direction
Hydraulic fluid level low - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.
Undercarriage tracks are blocked or damaged - Correct blockage or repair tracks.
Input drive shaft failure - Service or change drive shaft.
Relief valve is not working correctly - Repair or replace relief valve.
Dirty hydraulic filter or suction line - Clean suction line or change hydraulic filter.
Faulty foot or hand controls - Change or repair.

Machine will not move straight or moves jerkily

Lack of power
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Change or service hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is open or worn - Change or close relief valve.
Transmission components are worn or defective - Check and change faulty components.
Input drive shaft is worn - Rebuild or change the shaft.
Air leaks in hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Drive system overheating
Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.

Starter cranks slowly
Battery voltage is low - Battery is drained, charge it.

Starter doesn't crank
Battery is drained or defective - Change or recharge battery.
Wire harness is disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wire harness and connect as required.
Low battery capacity - Battery is drained, charge it.
Starter motor failure - Starter needs to be replaced.
