Kubota R090 Troubleshooting

The Kubota R090 wheel loader is powered by Kubota V2607-CR-TE5 4-stroke vertical 4-cylinder direct injection turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 63.5 hp (47 kW) at 2400 rpm. The Kubota R090 is equipped with a two-range hydrostatic transmission, power steering system, wet disc brakes, and 12.5x18 standard tires. The hydraulic system has a pump with fluid flow rate of 17.7 gpm (67.2 lpm). The hydraulic pressure is 2975 psi (205 bar). The wheel loader has a rated operating capacity of 3785 lbs (1720 kg) and tipping load of 7570 lbs (3440 kg). The max lift height is 127.2 inches (3230 mm) to hinge pin, and breakout force is 9860 lbs (4480 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or will not start
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Dirty fuel filter - Change the filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Improper valve clearance - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Repair or change injection pump.

Engine starts and then shuts off
Clogged air cleaner - Clean or replace element.
Fuel filter plugging - Replace the filter element.
Poor fuel injection pump tightness - Look for any leaks of fuel pump, tighten it fast.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Repair or install a new fuel pump.

Engine stops running suddenly
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel filter plugging - Change the filter element.
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust as recommended.

Engine stalls at low idle speed
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Correct the settings.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Rebuild or change fuel pump.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Test and replace fuel injectors if necessary.
Valve out of adjustment - Adjustment procedure required.

Diesel power loss
Clogged air cleaner - Clean or change cleaner.
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged - Replace injection nozzles.
Incorrect fuel injection pressure - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly.
Incorrect valve clearance - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjust as required.
Dirt in the fuel lines or hoses - Fuel hoses and lines must be clean.
Blown cylinder head gasket - Gasket should be replaced.
Piston rings are leaking or defective - Replace piston rings.

Engine overheating
Lack of engine coolant - Refill to the correct level and inspect system for leaks.
Engine oil level is low - Fill up the engine oil.
Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator core - Change cap or clean radiator.
Damaged or worn fan belt - Belt change is required.
Engine is under excessive load - Load reducing is recommended.

Oil pressure is insufficient
Engine oil insufficient - Fill crankcase to proper oil level.
Oil filter is dirty - Replace or service engine oil filter.
Different type of engine oil - Use proper viscosity oil.
Crankshaft bearing oil clearance is incorrect - Change bearings.
Oil pump is worn or damaged - Remove and inspect oil pump.

Engine knocks or noises
Engine oil level is insufficient - Check and refill engine oil.
Engine is not preheated - Warm up engine as required.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Correct low idle adjustment.
Fuel injector fault - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Misaligned or defective connecting rod - Align or change connecting rod.
Broken or worn pistons - Install new pistons.

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting

Hydrostatic transmission noises
Oil is dirty or oil level is too low - Add oil to the correct level or fill the transmission with fresh oil.
Speed control linkage is defective or unadjusted - Replace or adjust linkage.
Relief valve is stuck - Install a new valve.
Transmission is under excessive load - The load should be reduced.
Worn or defective parts of the hydrostatic transmission - Replace or repair defective components.

Power is too low
Transmission oil insufficient - Check transmission oil level and add oil as required.
Relief valve failure - Change relief valve.
Speed control pedal linkage is bent or not adjusted - Adjust or repair linkage.

Transmission oil overheats
Low oil level - Check and refill the transmission oil.
Dirty transmission fluid filter - Service or change transmission fluid filter.
Cooling components are damaged or clogged - Check all cooling components and repair or change if required.
Transmission overloaded - The load should be reduced.

External fluid leaks
Damaged gaskets or seals - Replace worn seal or gaskets.
Internal transmission housing pressure is too high - Check transmission parts for damage or wear and replace if required.
Oil return tube is plugged - Clean or replace the tube.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system overheats
Hydraulic pressure incorrectly adjusted - Correct adjustment is required.
Main relief valve is faulty or misadjusted - Set up or change the relief valve.
Hydraulic oil is dirty - The oil must be changed.
Hydraulic oil level is insufficient - Check oil level and add hydraulic oil as required.
Defective hydraulic pump - Install new pump or repair it.

Boom fails to lift or drop
Lift controls are faulty - Check and repair as required.
Hydraulic pump is broken - Install new pump or repair it.
Faulty hydraulic control valve - Install a new hydraulic valve or repair it.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Replace or repair boom cylinder.
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Add fluid as required.

Bucket tilt does not work
Bucket controls are faulty - Inspect and repair if necessary.
Hydraulic pump is broken - Repair or replace pump if necessary.
Damaged hydraulic control valve - Replace or repair the valve.
Hydraulic bucket cylinder is defective - Change or repair cylinder.
Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.

Slow bucket or lift arm operation
Faulty hydraulic oil pump - Check pump flow and change pump if necessary.
Hydraulic cylinder oil leakage - Cylinder seals need to be replaced.
Hydraulic oil level low - Fill the system to proper hydraulic oil level.
Hydraulic control valve is unadjusted or worn - Adjust properly or repair.
Hydraulic system loosing pressure - Adjust pressure as required.

Lift arm or bucket is moving jerkily
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Bleed air from system.
Hydraulic oil filter clogging - Replace or clean the filter.
Hydraulic oil is dirty - Hydraulic oil change required.
Scratched cylinder rod or tube - Change worn component.

Hydraulic pump is excessively noisy
Hydraulic system leaking or not enough oil - Repair hydraulic leaks or add oil as required.
Plugged hydraulic filter - Clean or install new filter.
Dirty suction line - Suction line needs to be cleaned.
Air trapped in hydraulic pump - Need to bleed air.
Pump components are worn out - Rebuild or replace hydraulic pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery does not charge
Electrical wire connections are corroded or loose - Clean or tighten connections.
Electrical terminal connectors are defective - Install new terminal connectors.
Worn-out battery - Battery replacement required.
Loose or damaged belt - Replace belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter cranks slowly
Low battery power - Battery needs to be recharged.
Battery drains quickly - Service battery or change it.
Battery cables are disconnected or terminals are faulty - Check wiring and clean or replace terminals.

Starter motor won't turn
Battery is low or faulty - Change or recharge battery.
Battery wiring is disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect wiring and connect as required.
Battery voltage is low - Battery is drained, charge it.
Starter motor is faulty - Change or repair starter.
