JCB 416 HT Troubleshooting
The
JCB 416 HT wheel loader driveline system components: JCB Dieselmax 444
four-cylinder direct injection turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of
121 hp (90.5 kW), and 4x3 powershift transmission. The hydraulic system has a
pump with a rated capacity of 41.2 gal/min (156 l/min). The system relief
pressure is 3190 psi (220 bar). The JCB 416 HT is equipped with a hydraulic
power steering, hydraulic wet disc brakes, and 17.5R25 tires. The wheel loader
has a maximum lift height of 134.1" (3405 mm) and bucket breakout force of 22530
lbs (10240 kg). The rated operating capacity is 8220 lbs (3735 kg), and tipping
load is 16470 lbs (7470 kg).
Engine Troubleshooting |
Engine difficult to start or doesn't start
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Fuel filter element clogging - Service the filter.
Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective - Test injection nozzles and change if necessary.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Valve clearance is wrong - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Change or repair the pump.
Engine starts and then shuts off
Dirty air filter - Clean or change filter.
Clogged fuel filter - Service or replace the filter.
Problems with fuel injection pump tightness - Inspect fuel injection pump for leaks.
Dirty or defective injectors - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Repair or change injection pump.
Diesel shuts off while driving
Engine is cold - Warm up to required temperature.
Dirty fuel filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Service or change injection nozzles.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Check the fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Engine stalls when idling
Incorrect low idle setting - Adjust low idle speed.
Fuel injection pump damage - Change pump or rebuild it.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Valve clearance is not correct - Correct valve clearance.
Engine lacks power
Plugged air filter - Change or service air filter element.
Defective injection nozzle - Replace injection nozzles.
Insufficient fuel injection pressure - Adjust to proper pressure.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Correct low idle settings.
Fuel hoses or lines are dirty - Fuel lines and hoses need to be cleaned.
Leaking cylinder head gasket - Change cylinder head gasket.
Worn or damaged piston rings - Change piston rings.
Engine overheated
Low coolant level - Top up coolant fluid and check system for leaks.
Insufficient engine oil - Fill up the engine oil.
Faulty radiator cap or dirty radiator fins - Change cap or clean radiator.
Fan belt slipping or worn - Replace as required.
Diesel engine overloaded - Load reducing is recommended.
Insufficient oil pressure
Engine oil insufficient - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Oil filter element clogged - Change or service engine oil filter.
Incorrect oil viscosity - Fill up with the correct oil viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing has excessive oil clearance - Install new bearings.
Oil pump is worn or damaged - Replace as required.
Abnormal engine knocking or noise
Insufficient engine oil - Check and refill engine oil.
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up the engine.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust the pump as required.
Low idle speed set incorrectly - Adjust low idle speed.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Connecting rod is defective or not aligned - Align or change connecting rod.
Scored or worn pistons - Replace the pistons.
Transmission Troubleshooting |
Insufficient transmission fluid pressure
Lack of transmission oil supply - Check and refill the transmission oil.
Clogged transmission fluid filter (if equipped) - Clean or change transmission fluid filter.
Defective relief valve - Replace valve as required.
Transmission noises
Transmission fluid insufficient - Check and refill the transmission fluid.
Transmission oil contamination - Fill up with fresh transmission oil.
Gears are defective or backlash is improper - Replace gears or adjust backlash correctly.
Bearings are cracked or worn - Replace the bearings.
Damaged or worn gear shift forks - Change defective shift forks.
Damaged or worn shaft splines - Shaft need to be replaced.
Difficulty shifting gears
Worn or rusty gear shift linkage - Lubricate or replace the shift linkage.
Shift forks are worn or bent - Change defective shift forks.
Defective parts in the gearshift mechanism - Replace defective parts.
Improperly adjusted or worn clutch - Clutch needs to be adjusted or changed.
Transmission fluid leaks
Too much fluid in transmission - Excess fluid must be drained.
Damaged gaskets or seals - Change defective gaskets or seal.

Hydraulic system overheated
Incorrect hydraulic pressure setting - Correct adjustment is required.
Faulty or improperly adjusted main relief valve - Set up or change the relief valve.
Hydraulic fluid contamination - Change hydraulic fluid.
Lack of hydraulic fluid - Check and refill the hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic pump is faulty - Replace or repair pump if necessary.
Boom cannot be lowered or raised
Lift controls failure - Repair or change.
Defective hydraulic pump - Install new pump or repair it.
Hydraulic control valve failure - Repair or change the valve.
Faulty hydraulic cylinder - Change or repair lift cylinder.
Low hydraulic fluid level - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.
Bucket tilt does not work
Bucket controls failure - Check and repair as required.
Defective hydraulic pump - Repair or install new hydraulic pump.
Hydraulic control valve is faulty - Install a new valve or repair it.
Hydraulic bucket cylinder is defective - Install a new cylinder or repair it.
Hydraulic fluid level low - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Boom or bucket functions slowly
Hydraulic pump is defective - Flow-rate hydraulic pump and replace pump if necessary.
Oil leaks from hydraulic cylinder - Install new cylinder seals.
Insufficient hydraulic oil - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic control valve is defective or set improper - Repair or adjust properly.
Hydraulic system loosing pressure - Adjust pressure as required.
Lift arm or bucket is moving jerkily
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Hydraulic oil filter element is clogged - Replace or clean the filter.
Hydraulic fluid is dirty - Change hydraulic fluid.
Cylinder rod or tube is scuffed - Change failed component.
Hydraulic pump makes excessive noise
Insufficient oil level or leaking hydraulic system - Add hydraulic oil or correct system leaks.
Plugged hydraulic filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Suction line clogging - Need to clean the suction line.
Air enters the pump - Air bleeding is required.
Faulty pump components - Rebuild or install new pump.
Electrical Troubleshooting |
Battery will not charge
Corroded or loose wire connections - Tighten or clean electrical wiring connections.
Defective electrical terminal connectors - Terminal connectors should be replaced.
Bad cell in battery - Battery replacement required.
Belt is loose or defective - Adjust belt tension or install a new belt.
Starter cranks slowly
Low battery capacity - Battery is drained, charge it.
Battery discharges quickly - Service charging system or change battery.
Faulty battery terminals or disconnected cables - Check wiring connections and replace or clean terminals.
Starter will not work
Battery is low or faulty - Replace or charge as required.
Battery wiring is disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect wiring and connect as required.
Battery capacity is low - Battery is drained, charge it.
Defective starter motor - Repair or replace starter.
