Case W11B Troubleshooting
The Case W11B wheel loader driveline system components: 239 cu.in (3.9L) Case 4-390 four-cycle four-cylinder direct injection liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 66 hp (49 kW), and 3x3 powershift transmission with a torque converter. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 15 gal/min (57 l/min) or 11 gal/min (41.5 l/min). The Case W11B is equipped with a hydrostatic power steering system, hydraulic disc brakes, and 12.5x20 and 15.0x19.5 tires. The wheel loader has a max lift height of 124" (3150 mm) and bucket breakout force of 10045 lbs (4560 kg). The rated operating capacity is 4548 lbs (2063 kg), and tipping load is 9095 lbs (4125 kg).
Engine Troubleshooting |
Engine hard to start or doesn't start
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Fuel filter plugging - Change the filter element.
Burnt or defective injection nozzle - Service or change injection nozzles.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Check and adjust.
Fuel injection pump is not operating properly - Change pump or rebuild it.
Diesel starts but then stops
Dirty air filter - Clean or change.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Change filter element.
Poor fuel injection pump tightness - Look for any leaks of fuel pump, tighten it fast.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Fuel injection pump is faulty - Rebuild or change fuel pump.
Engine stalls after running
Engine is not warmed up to required temperature - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Clean or change the filter.
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Service or change injection nozzles.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Adjust as recommended.
Engine stalls when idle
Incorrect low idle speed adjustment - Adjust low idle speed.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.
Fuel injector fault - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Improper valve clearance - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.
Engine power loss
Air cleaner is dirty - Install new air cleaner element.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pressure is wrong - Adjust to correct pressure.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Test and adjust.
Restricted fuel lines or hoses - Clean fuel hoses and lines.
Cylinder head gasket is damaged - Replace the gasket as required.
Piston rings are broken or leaking - Install new piston rings.
Engine is overheated
Coolant level is low - The cooling system needs to be refilled and checked for faults.
Engine oil level is low - Fill up the oil to required level.
Radiator fins are clogged or radiator cap is faulty - Install new cap or clean radiator.
Loose or defective fan belt - Belt replacement is recommended.
Engine overloaded - Reduce engine load.
Low oil pressure
Lack of oil - Fill crankcase to proper oil level.
Oil filter element clogging - Service or replace engine oil filter.
Incorrect engine oil Use oil of proper viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing oil clearance is incorrect - Bearings need to be reinstalled.
Oil pump malfunction - Replace as required.
Abnormal engine knocking or noise
Engine oil level is low - Fill up the engine oil.
Low coolant temperature - Warm up engine as required.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Normalize low idle speed.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Misaligned or defective connecting rod - Align or change connecting rod.
Pistons are scored or worn - Have pistons replaced.
Transmission Troubleshooting |
Transmission oil pressure is insufficient
Transmission oil level is low - Fill up the transmission oil.
Plugged transmission oil filter (if equipped) - Service or change transmission oil filter.
Relief valve malfunction - Install a new relief valve.
Transmission is excessively noisy
Transmission oil insufficient - Need to add transmission oil.
Transmission oil is contaminated - Transmission oil change required.
Backlash is incorrect or gears are damaged - Change worn gears or adjust backlash correctly.
Bearings are cracked or worn - Faulty bearings should be changed.
Worn or bent shift forks - Change defective shift forks.
Shaft splines are worn or damaged - Install a new shaft.
Hard shifting
Worn or rusty gear shift linkage - Shift linkage need to be replaced.
Worn or bent gear shift forks - Shift forks need to be changed.
Worn gear shifting mechanism - Repair or change worn components if necessary.
Malfunction or incorrect clutch adjustment - Replace or adjust clutch.
Transmission oil leaks
High transmission fluid level - Drain the excess fluid.
Seals or gaskets are broken - Change defective seal or gaskets.

Hydraulic system is overheated
Hydraulic pressure is not adjusted correctly - Correct setting is required.
Misadjusted or defective main relief valve - Set up or change the relief valve.
Hydraulic oil is dirty - Hydraulic oil change required.
Not enough hydraulic oil in the system - Add oil to the hydraulic system.
Hydraulic pump is faulty - Repair or install new hydraulic pump.
Lift arm cannot be raised or lowered
Lift controls are defective - Check and repair as required.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Install new pump or repair it.
Hydraulic control valve failure - Repair or replace hydraulic valve.
Hydraulic cylinder not working - Install a new boom cylinder or repair it.
Insufficient hydraulic oil - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Bucket fails to tilt
Bucket tilt controls are defective - Check and repair as required.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Replace or repair pump if necessary.
Faulty hydraulic control valve - Replace or repair the valve.
Bucket cylinder is faulty - Repair or change cylinder.
Hydraulic oil level low - Need to add oil.
Boom or bucket runs slowly
Hydraulic pump is defective - Test the pump performance and change pump if required.
Hydraulic cylinder oil leakage - Correct leakage by changing the seals.
Hydraulic oil level low - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Defective or not adjusted hydraulic control valve - Adjust properly or repair.
Hydraulic pressure has dropped - Adjust pressure correctly.
Lift arm or bucket is working jerkily
Air in hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.
Hydraulic oil filter is dirty - Clean or change the filter.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - The fluid must be changed.
Cylinder rod or tube is scratched - Change worn component.
Hydraulic pump is excessively noisy
Not enough oil or hydraulic system leaking - Top up hydraulic oil or remedy leakage in system.
Dirty hydraulic filter - Clean or install new filter.
Suction line is clogged - Suction line must be serviced.
Air in hydraulic pump - Remove air from hydraulics.
Pump parts are damaged - Rebuild or change hydraulic pump.
Electrical Troubleshooting |
Battery cannot be charged
Corroded or loose cable connections - Clean or tighten connections.
Defective electrical terminal connectors - Replace terminal connectors.
Dead cell in battery - Use a new battery.
Belt is damaged or loose - Belt needs to be adjusted or replaced.
Starter motor turns slow
Low battery voltage - Battery is drained, recharge it.
Battery is draining quickly - Service charging system or change battery.
Disconnected wires or corroded battery terminals - Check cables and clean or change terminals.
Starter motor is not working
Battery is drained or defective - Change or recharge battery.
Wiring harness is disconnected or improperly connected - Check wiring harness and connect as required.
Low battery voltage - Charge the battery.
Starter motor failure - Starter needs to be changed.
