Case 1121G Troubleshooting

The Case 1121G wheel loader driveline system components: FPT F2C FE614F 6-cylinder direct injection turbocharged liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 293 hp (218 kW), and 4x3 autoshift transmission with a torque converter. The hydraulic system has two piston pumps with a rated capacity of 50.2 gal/min (190 l/min) each. The Case 1121G is equipped with a power steering, hydraulic multiple wet disc brakes, and 26.5R25 tires. The wheel loader has a maximum lift height to hinge pin of 175.2" (4450 mm) and breakout force of 49935 lbs (22650 kg). The rated operating capacity is 25950 lbs (11770 kg), and tipping load is 51900 lbs (23540 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine hard to start or won't start
Air in the fuel pipes - Bleed the fuel pipes.
Clogged fuel filter - Clean the filter element.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Excessive valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Repair or replace injection pump.

Diesel starts but immediately shuts off
Plugged air cleaner - Install new air cleaner element.
Clogged fuel filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Fuel injection pump has loose connections - Tighten the connections.
Dirty or defective injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Fuel injection pump damage - Repair or install a new fuel pump.

Diesel shuts off while driving
Engine is not preheated - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel filter plugging - Clean or replace the filter.
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Defective injection nozzle - Replace injection nozzles.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stalls while idling
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjust as required.
Fuel injection pump is not working correctly - Install a new pump or rebuild.
Dirty or defective injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Improper valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance.

Engine power loss
Dirty air filter - Clean or change.
Fuel injection nozzles fault - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Fuel injection pressure is wrong - Adjust to correct pressure.
Valve clearance is wrong - Adjust valve clearance according to specifications.
Too low idle RPM - Need to adjust idle speed.
Fuel lines or hoses are dirty - Clean fuel system hoses and lines.
Cylinder-head gasket is broken - Cylinder-head gasket replacement required.
Leaking or defective piston rings - Piston rings need to be replaced.

Engine overheats
Engine has a lack of coolant - Top up coolant fluid and check system for leaks.
Engine oil level is low - Need to add engine oil.
Clogged radiator fins or leaking radiator cap - Clean radiator or install new cap.
Damaged or worn fan belt - Belt change is required.
Diesel engine overloaded - Load reducing required.

Oil pressure is low
Engine oil level low - Add oil as required.
Clogged oil filter - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Incorrect oil viscosity - Fill up with the correct oil viscosity.
Incorrect oil clearance in main bearing - Change bearings.
Oil pump is defective - Check and replace if necessary.

Abnormal engine noise or knocking
Engine oil insufficient - Need to add engine oil.
Engine is cold - Warm up to required temperature.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust the pump as required.
Incorrect low idle speed adjustment - Adjust low idle speed.
Fuel injector fault - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Faulty or misaligned connecting rod - Connecting rod must be aligned or replaced.
Broken or worn pistons - Pistons need to be replaced.

Transmission Troubleshooting

Low transmission pressure
Lack of transmission oil supply - Check and refill the transmission oil.
Transmission oil filter is dirty (if equipped) - Service or replace the transmission oil filter.
Relief valve is damaged - Replace relief valve.

Transmission noises
Insufficient transmission oil - Add oil to the transmission housing.
Transmission oil is dirty - Transmission oil change required.
Gears are damaged or backlash is incorrect - Replace gears or adjust backlash correctly.
Bearings are damaged or worn - Replace the bearings.
Worn or bent shift forks - Change defective shift forks.
Damaged or worn shaft splines - Replace the shaft.

Difficulty shifting gears
Corroded or worn gear shift linkage - Lubricate or replace the shift linkage.
Worn or bent shift forks - Change the shift forks.
Gearshift mechanism is damaged - Replace or repair the mechanism.
Improperly adjusted or worn clutch - Adjust or install new clutch.

Transmission oil leaks
Transmission fluid level is high - Correct the fluid level.
Seals or gaskets are worn - Install new gaskets or seal.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system overheated
Hydraulic pressure is not correct - Correct adjustment is required.
Main relief valve failure or improper setting - Adjust or replace the relief valve.
Hydraulic oil is contaminated - Change hydraulic oil.
Lack of hydraulic fluid - Need to add fluid.
Faulty hydraulic oil pump - Repair or replace pump if necessary.

Lift arm won't raise or lower
Defective lift controls - Change or repair.
Damaged hydraulic oil pump - Repair or install new hydraulic pump.
Hydraulic control valve malfunction - Repair or replace the valve.

Bucket won't move

Lift arm or bucket jerks when working
Air in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Plugged hydraulic oil filter - Service or change the hydraulic filter.
Dirty hydraulic oil - Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil.
Cylinder tube or rod scoring - Replace defective component.

Hydraulic pump is excessively noisy
Hydraulic leaks or lack of oil - Top up hydraulic oil or remedy leakage in system.
Plugged hydraulic filter - Change or clean oil filter.
Plugged suction line - Clean suction line as required.
Air enters the pump - Need to bleed air.
Worn pump parts - Rebuild or replace hydraulic pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery does not charge
Loose or corroded wire connections - Tighten or clean electrical wiring connections.
Defective battery terminal clamps - Replace terminal clamps.
Battery faulty cell - Battery replacement required.
Defective or loose belt - Install a new belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter motor cranks slow
Low battery voltage - Battery is drained, recharge it.
Battery is not holding charge - Battery needs service or replacement.
Terminals are faulty or battery cables are disconnected - Connect wiring properly or install new terminals.

Starter doesn't crank
Battery is discharged or worn - Charge or replace the battery.
Battery cables are disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check cables and connect as needed.
Low battery output - Charge the battery.
Faulty starter motor - Repair or install a new starter.
