Case 1021G Troubleshooting

The Case 1021G wheel loader driveline system components: 531 cu.in (8.7L) FPT F2C FE614H 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 270 hp (201 kW), and 4-speed transmission. The hydraulic system has 2 pumps with a rated capacity of 50.2 gal/min (190 l/min) and 42.8 gal/min (162 l/min). The system relief pressure is 3650 psi (252 bar). The Case 1021G is equipped with a power steering system, hydraulic wet disc brakes, and 26.5R25 tires. The wheel loader has a maximum lift height of 167.2" (4245 mm) and breakout force of 45055 lbs (20435 kg). The rated operating capacity is 24100 lbs (10930 kg), and tipping load is 48200 lbs (21860 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine difficult to start or won't start
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Install new filter element.
Clogged or defective injection nozzles - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance according to specifications.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Change or repair the pump.

Engine starts and immediately shuts off
Plugged air filter - Clean or change.
Fuel filter element clogging - Clean or replace the filter.
Problems with fuel injection pump tightness - Inspect fuel injection pump for leaks.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Test and replace fuel injectors if necessary.
Fuel injection pump is not operating properly - Replace or rebuild injection pump.

Engine stops running suddenly
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up engine as required.
Fuel filter element clogging - Change filter element.
Air in the fuel pipes - Bleed the fuel pipes.
Defective injection nozzle - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Set up as recommended.

Engine stops when idling
Too low idle RPM - Adjust as required.
Fuel injection pump is not operating properly - Repair or replace injection pump.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Valve clearance is not correct - Adjust to proper valve clearance.

Low engine power
Dirty air filter - Replace or clean air filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Fuel injection pressure is incorrect - Adjust to proper pressure.
Valve clearance is not correct - Have it adjusted.
Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Adjustment required.
Dirt in the fuel hoses or lines - Fuel lines and hoses need to be cleaned.
Cylinder-head gasket is leaking - Replace the gasket as required.
Piston rings are damaged or leaking - Install new piston rings.

Engine overheated
Insufficient coolant - Fill radiator to proper level and check components for faults.
Engine oil level low - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Damaged radiator cap or dirty radiator core - Clean radiator or install new cap.
Fan belt is broken or worn - Belt replacement is recommended.
Diesel engine is overloaded - Load reducing required.

Oil pressure too low
Oil level is insufficient - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Oil filter element is dirty - Service or replace engine oil filter.
Oil grade or viscosity is wrong - Use oil of correct viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing oil clearance is excessive - Change bearings.
Oil pump is damaged - Replace as required.

Engine knocking or noise
Engine oil level low - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up the engine.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Set up as recommended.
Incorrect low idle speed adjustment - Adjustment required.
Fuel injector fault - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Connecting rod is not aligned or defective - Connecting rod needs to be replaced or aligned.
Piston wear or scoring - Replace the pistons as required.

Transmission Troubleshooting

Low transmission pressure
Insufficient transmission oil - Check transmission oil level and add oil as required.
Dirty transmission fluid filter element (if equipped) - Replace or service transmission fluid filter.
Defective relief valve - Replace relief valve as required.

Transmission noises
Transmission fluid level is low - Need to add transmission fluid.
Transmission oil is contaminated - Fill up with fresh transmission oil.
Gears are damaged or backlash is incorrect - Adjust backlash properly or replace the gears.
Worn or cracked bearings - Change faulty bearings.
Worn or bent gear shift forks - Change the shift forks.
Shaft splines are damaged or worn - Shaft need to be changed.

Difficulty shifting gears
Rusty or worn gear shift linkage - Install new shift linkage.
Shift forks are worn or bent - Change defective shift forks.
Worn out parts of the gearshift mechanism - Replace worn parts.
Clutch is faulty or misadjusted - Clutch replacement or adjustment required.

Transmission fluid leaking
High transmission oil level - Correct the oil level.
Damaged gaskets or seals - Replace worn gaskets or seal.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system has overheating
Incorrect hydraulic pressure setting - Correct adjustment is required.
Misadjusted or defective main relief valve - Set up or change the relief valve.
Contaminated hydraulic oil - Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic oil level is insufficient - Check oil level and add hydraulic oil as required.
Worn hydraulic oil pump - Repair or install new hydraulic pump.

Boom cannot be lowered or raised
Defective lift controls - Check and repair as required.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Change or repair hydraulic pump if required.
Hydraulic control valve is faulty - Install a new valve or repair it.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Replace or repair boom cylinder.
Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.

Bucket can't tilt
Defective bucket controls - Repair or replace.
Defective hydraulic pump - Replace or repair pump if necessary.
Hydraulic control valve failure - Install a new valve or repair it.
Hydraulic bucket cylinder is defective - Install a new cylinder or repair it.
Hydraulic fluid level low - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.

Slow boom or bucket operation
Defective hydraulic pump - Check pump performance and change it if necessary.
Oil leaks from hydraulic cylinder - Change cylinder piston seals.
Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Faulty or incorrect setting hydraulic control valve - Set properly or repair.

Bucket or boom is moving jerkily
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Need to bleed air.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter element - Service or replace the hydraulic filter.
Contaminated hydraulic oil - Hydraulic oil change required.
Cylinder tube or rod scoring - Change worn component.

Hydraulic pump is excessively noisy
Lack of oil or hydraulic leakage - Repair hydraulic leaks or add oil as required.
Clogged hydraulic filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Dirty suction line - Suction line must be serviced.
Air enters the pump - Bleed air from hydraulics.
Pump components are worn out - Rebuild or replace hydraulic pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery won’t charge
Loose or corroded electrical wiring connections - Tighten or service connections.
Defective electrical terminal connectors - Terminal connectors need to be changed.
Battery faulty cell - Replace the battery.
Belt is defective or loose - Belt needs to be adjusted or replaced.

Starter turning slow
Battery capacity is low - Charge the battery.
Battery won’t hold charge - Service charging system or install new battery.
Battery cables are disconnected or terminals are faulty - Check cable connections and change or clean terminals.

Starter is not working
Battery is drained or worn - Battery needs to be recharged or replaced.
Battery wiring is disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect wiring and connect as required.
Battery voltage is low - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Defective starter motor - Replace or repair starter.
